Weekend

BUT FIRST, COFFEE.

All I need is coffee..mascara…an oversized grey cardigan…ripped jeans and maybe a slice of pizza.

I was never a coffee drinker. I somehow made it through college without drinking one drop of coffee. I was the girl that ordered a hot chocolate when friends wanted to grab a cup of joe. Then soon the real world hit — where it somehow became the thing to do. It was like being at a college party and feeling the peer pressure — “What?! You don’t drink coffee?!”

I felt out of the loop — coffee time was a sacred moment at the office where coworkers could share fun stories and recap their weekend — if I didn’t partake I might not be part of the conversation – the horror!

Then one summer, an intern we had enlightened me. “Syma, why don’t you add some hot chocolate to your cup of coffee, then you’ll have an instant mocha!” Pure genius.
Four years later, I still drink coffee with hot chocolate mix — I apologize to my dentist but for now this is the only way it can happen.

So now what do I need in the AM besides coffee and my solid 15 minute morning routine? Mascara. This tee from Aerie couldn’t be cuter or more Insta-worthy if I do say so myself (Jay Z voice).

Sadly, it’s freezing out so I couldn’t show you the beautiful low-back but I love the soft jersey this tee is made in. I paired this tee for a casual coffee run with my American Eagle Outfitters Tomgirl jeans and oversized cardi.

In the Tomgirls I size down 2 sizes — I’ve never loved a super slouchy jean on myself so these still feel like I won’t lose my shape but give that effortless look I always love.

A simple grey cardigan, also from American Eagle Outfitters is all you’ll want to wear this winter.

I completed my #OOTD with my go-to Rachel Comey booties and I’m off to grab a cup of joe and run my usual weekend errands with a side of window-shopping.

WEEKEND WEAR: HOW-TO DRESS UP YOUR SWEATS

IMG_0108

November is in full swing and temps are dropping in NYC. When Friday comes around, all I want to do is put on sweatpants. Thank God for the trend of “athleisure” where now it’s socially acceptable to rock your favorite comfy pants outside the house.

However, you must follow some rules when attempting to dress up your sweats so you don’t completely look like you rolled out of bed. Listen up guys, I’m talking to you too.

A staple piece in every person’s wardrobe is a leather jacket. If you can’t break the bank at the moment, have no fear — there are so many types of “vegan” leather jackets sold by your fast-fashion destinations like Zara to give you the look of a classic leather jacket without spending next month’s rent.

Whether you want to dress up a hoodie (a la Kendall Jenner) or simply add some structure to your look – this is a great way to do this. It takes your sweats to next level where you go from borderline pjs to “model off-duty.”

I love a neutral palette – so simply adding a grey tee with my black Aerie sweatpants was an easy decision.

Now for the sneaker, one thing I love about living in NYC is how much of a sneaker culture it is. It’s important to have a variety in your sneaker game – you want the basics; Converse, Adidas and Nikes.

I love a simple white high-top converse. They look very “cool-Euro model” in the summer with a dress and love the way they look with an all black ensemble for a little pop.

At under 60 bucks, you can’t go wrong with this timeless kick.

Throw on your favorite eyewear and you’re ready to hit the streets not only comfortable but completely in style.

WHAT TO WEAR THIS WEEKEND: THE 4TH

_MG_2544

Can you believe July is already here?! I can’t believe the 4th is this weekend! It’s one of my favorite holidays. There’s nothing like being with your favorite people, grilling out and watching the beautiful fireworks on a summer night!

On the 4th — I always go casual. What’s more American than wearing denim? For my look I decided to wear a pair of white destroyed boyfriend jeans with an easy striped crop tee from American Eagle Outfitters. Adding a pop of red with my Kate Spade Saturday crossbody gives a touch of Patriotic love without being too red, white and blue.

I love a good statement hat. This fun style I scored at H&M — this style has been super popular this season and being under 20 dollars, there’s no reason not to embrace the trend!

For the evening when you’re ready to watch the fireworks with your favorite people, an easy denim jacket around your waist is not only fashionable but functional to keep you warm once the sky lights up.

My favorite sneaker of the moment are these Stan Smith’s — the light grey is a nice alternative to the white and neutral enough to go with most pieces in your wardrobe.

I’m sure you already have similar pieces in your wardrobe — what will you wear to celebrate?!

TRAVEL DIARY: MONTAUK, NY

Living in NYC is amazing but at times all you want is to get out of the city. The destination that’s trending these days? The “un-Hamptons” otherwise known as Montauk.

This was my first time venturing to a New York beach and I loved every minute of it. Its incredible that just under a three hour drive you can be transported to a whole different world. New York City is a distant memory in your rear view mirror.

Montauk is at the very end of Long Island and is surrounded by breathtaking views of endless water. Known for it’s laid-back surf attitude, Montauk was filled with cute boutiques, great restaurants and lounges.

My personal favorite? The Surf Lodge. Everything in that hotel was Instagram worthy – I couldn’t stop taking pictures of the decor. Not to mention, it was the site of my very first Lobster Roll and it did not disappoint.

I highly recommend Montauk for an easy getaway if you’re looking to venture out of the city and want some easy-breezy beach vibes.

Hope you enjoy my photos as much as I enjoyed being there!
