THE COAT OF THE SEASON: CAMEL

The camel coat has made quite the statement this season and the one piece I was so excited to add to my wardrobe this fall.

_MG_4872

If you saw my last post, “Thankful for Neutrals” — this coat continues my love for all things grey, tan and taupe.

When it comes to outerwear, I think it’s important to have three key coats in your closet: black, grey and tan. You can’t go wrong with this combination — the outfit opportunities are endless!

This camel dream is the Babaton Jacoby Coat from Aritzia. Be sure to check out the rest of their outerwear as well, I’m pretty much obsessed with all of it and don’t even get me started about their blanket scarves….(post coming soon!)

In this #OOTD I wanted to dress up my go-to day-to-day outfit; a grey sweater, black jeggings and my Stan Smith’s. This camel coat was the perfect touch to elevate my outfit.

_MG_4876

This look is great for our current weather conditions in NYC, thanks to El Nino, my ankles do not freeze and I can show off my footwear game a bit with a cropped length.

_MG_5138-2

I cut these American Eagle Outfitters jeggings myself to add some frayed detailing to the bottom. I’m going to admit, I did not cut these that great but after a few washes, they evened out ok. 🙂

I paired my jeans with this comfy and cozy American Eagle Outfitters mock neck sweater which I highly recommend. It comes in a few colors so you might need all of them, naturally.

_MG_5133Paired with my Ray-Bans, black tote and light grey Adidas Stan Smith’s, I’m ready to hit the streets of NYC in not only comfort but so on trend .

WEEKEND WEAR: HOW-TO DRESS UP YOUR SWEATS

IMG_0108

November is in full swing and temps are dropping in NYC. When Friday comes around, all I want to do is put on sweatpants. Thank God for the trend of “athleisure” where now it’s socially acceptable to rock your favorite comfy pants outside the house.

However, you must follow some rules when attempting to dress up your sweats so you don’t completely look like you rolled out of bed. Listen up guys, I’m talking to you too.

A staple piece in every person’s wardrobe is a leather jacket. If you can’t break the bank at the moment, have no fear — there are so many types of “vegan” leather jackets sold by your fast-fashion destinations like Zara to give you the look of a classic leather jacket without spending next month’s rent.

Whether you want to dress up a hoodie (a la Kendall Jenner) or simply add some structure to your look – this is a great way to do this. It takes your sweats to next level where you go from borderline pjs to “model off-duty.”

I love a neutral palette – so simply adding a grey tee with my black Aerie sweatpants was an easy decision.

Now for the sneaker, one thing I love about living in NYC is how much of a sneaker culture it is. It’s important to have a variety in your sneaker game – you want the basics; Converse, Adidas and Nikes.

I love a simple white high-top converse. They look very “cool-Euro model” in the summer with a dress and love the way they look with an all black ensemble for a little pop.

At under 60 bucks, you can’t go wrong with this timeless kick.

Throw on your favorite eyewear and you’re ready to hit the streets not only comfortable but completely in style.

“Fall” In Love with the Perfect Seasonal Bootie

You could say my fall uniform consists of two things: black booties and black jeans.

IMG_5781

Living in NYC I feel like I have to buy a new pair of black booties every year and it was a never ending search for the perfect pair until I found the “one”.

They say, “you know when you know” and it’s true. The first time I tried on the Sam Edelman “Petty” bootie – my search was over.

It had everything I could want in an everyday boot; black leather, a low heel, sleek look, comfortable and timeless flair.

Paired with my newest destroyed jeans from American Eagle Outfitters — you could say it was a match made in heaven!

Possibilities are endless — and want to know the great thing? This boot comes in a variety of colors so now I need all of them (naturally). Cognac, grey, nude…and suede?! At under $150 – what’s not to love?

P.S. Happy #ShoesdayTuesday 🙂

BACK TO BLACK & WHITE

_MG_2172_MG_2155

It’s no secret one of the hottest trends of the season is baring your shoulders. It’s just a subtle amount of skin to show without being too over the top. I’ve fully embraced this trend this season paired with a new found love for jumpsuits. Being a bit taller (5’6)  I never thought I could rock the jumpsuit – thinking maybe my torso was too long and the proportions would be all wrong. Until one day I spotted this striped silhouette on a hanger in Forever 21. I was stunned by the stripes alone, I bought it for under 25 dollars without any hesitation. #steal I went home and tried it on and was so impressed by the fit and flare. I love the black & white pattern. This color combination is timeless and makes me feel sophisticated and classic. Adding a simple ponytail and a bold statement earring is all you need to dress this look up and let your shoulders really stand out! Are you ready to #freetheshoulder and get your jumpsuit on? I vote, yes.

DAY AND NIGHT

whitedress

This summer, I am all about the LWD — otherwise known as the Little White Dress.

I dreamed about this silhouette from Aritzia (as I do most things) when I spotted it on the racks when it was still freezing in NYC. I decided to purchase and stay optimistic thinking one day summer may indeed come and I can rock this dress with open toe shoes and bare legs.

Finally – summer arrived and it’s insanely hot in NYC. The instant fix? This easy breezy dress that I can take from day to night.

I wanted to show you fellow Fashionistas the versatility of this dress by simple switching up your accessory game.

For a casual day look – I love this paired with a flat cognac sandal, turquoise jewelry and my new favorite tassel earrings. For the summer heat, I love the hairstyle that has been trending over your Instagram feed: the half bun.

This look is perfect for the office, brunch out with the girls, or a fun day date.

For the evening it’s all about your shoes. To add some edge, I paired this dress with my statement heels from Zara. The red gives that extra pop you need that elevates the look into night.

I literally “let my hair down” and embraced my natural waves to switch up my look. It’s important to embrace your natural texture in this season because no matter how much you may try to fight it — the humidity will win.

If you want to add more shape, this dress comes with an adorable rope belt you can tie for a more fitted look. However, I love this dress loose. It has so much movement, and the hem comes up just a bit on the sides to show-off a bit of leg which never hurt anyone.

Are you ready to rock this look day to night? (Cue Kid Cudi.)

CROP IT LIKE IT’S HOT

IMG_454388499-1

The crop top has become a summer staple in my wardrobe. Surprisingly versatile, you can dress it up or down.

I love this style from American Eagle Outfitters that has a low ballerina back. The black and white stripes make it classic and easy to pair with anything from denim to a maxi skirt.

For this look, I wore my hi-waisted “Mom jeans”, also from AEO. I love when people ask if they are a vintage pair of denim that I’ve had in my closet for ages. Best compliment ever.

A hi-waisted jean is a key pairing with any crop top. Be sure to check out the amazing hi-rise selection AEO has to offer. From jeggings, to skinny jeans to flares —you’ll be sure to find a style that is super flattering on you.

Add a pair of statement heels and you’re ready for a fun night out!

Are you ready to crop it like it’s hot?

NOT YOUR BOYFRIEND’S JEANS

1-2

Boyfriend jeans – not the easiest type of denim to wear even though they claim to be!

Since I’m used to wearing a tight skinnier fit denim, I tend to feel a little frumpy when I wear a looser style. It’s important to find a pair of boyfriend jeans that still give you a shape. American Eagle Outfitters latest revamp of the boyfriend jean is called the “Tomgirl” — which has a skinnier fit. I also suggest playing with sizing. In a boyfriend jean I usually size down so they are not too baggy and overtime they will give you the right amount of slouch you want.

To feel more put together it’s all about adding the unexpected – a fun pair of heels! I scored these beauties at Zara a few summers back and love the bright bold turquoise. Turquoise is such a flattering shade on so many skin tones and the perfect pop of brightness to ease our way into summer.

I love a white crop top – especially this one from Aritzia. It fits a little oversized, but layered with a favorite lacy bralette from Aerie adds a just a bit of edge. Denim on denim has always been one of my favorite combinations. To continue with the “boyfriend” look – I actually borrowed from the boys and wore a men’s denim jacket from American Eagle Outfitters as well. Draped over my shoulders, I’m ready to hit the city for a fun summer night. Perhaps a rooftop?

Where will you wear your boyfriend jeans?

GIVE IT SOME FLARE

_MG_1172

_MG_1112

If you’re like me, you probably haven’t worn a flare jean in a few years – but this spring – the flare is back in full force and it’s time to embrace it!

I am all about a high-rise. Whether it’s a skinny jean, jegging or dare I say “mom jean” — I am obsessed.

In a flare, a high rise is especially important to give this jean a modern feel and not look like you just pulled out your favorite jeans from the 7th grade when low was the way to go.

I know some people are scared of a high-rise, but the style is actually super flattering on most shapes. It won’t give you the dreaded muffin-top and definitely elongates the legs. (Win-win!)

For this look, I paired my American Eagle Outfitters Hi-Rise Artist Flares with this great button-down from Forever 21. I love the light wash of these jeans. When I put them on I immediately channel my inner Rachel Zoe and want to say, “ba-na-nas.”

This woven top was a hidden gem I found on a recent trip to Forever. I love the soft linen and stripes. It’s the perfect staple as we head into spring/summer. I see me pairing it with so many different bottoms but I love the look of a button-down with a high rise pant.

In these flares, I made sure to get them in a longer length so I could wear them with heels. (Pro tip!)

Accessorize.

For the past year I have been loving delicate gold jewelry. Whether its layering a few different necklaces and rings (post coming soon), I love the idea of simple dainty jewels for everyday. This gold necklace I randomly came across at a mall staple, Windsor! Who knew, right? The ring I recently picked up in a pop-up shop in Chelsea Market here in NYC by Alexandra Beth Designs.

Adding my favorite Ray-Ban aviators and pop of color with my Kate Spade Saturday (RIP) crossbody I felt easy and breezy walking around the city.

Are you ready to give your next outift some flare?

BACKSTAGE PASS: New York Fashion Week

It’s that time of year again…your Instagram feed is flooded with #NYFW and blurred images of runway models are all filling your phones. NYC, always known for its street style kicks it up a notch as the buzz from the venues spills out into the street.

I had the opportunity to attend the David Tlale show and get a sneak peek backstage. I may love what happens behind the runway more than what goes down the runway. The frenzied action and stacks of make-up sent my beauty obsessed heart soaring.

I love to see the models getting ready, what make-up tricks the artists are using and just how they accomplish that signature “runway glow”.

Well my dear readers, if you always wanted to look behind the velvet curtain…look no further and come enjoy some highlights of my Sunday at Lincoln Center below:

I decided I was officially ready for a fall color palette so I paired this Wilfred dress from Aritiza from my closet for a classic silhouette. I added some edge with my American Eagle Outfitters moto vest for some “tomboy chic” and completed my look with my go-to All Saints grey pumps, Zara studded clutch to add some texture and Michael Kors watch. On my nails? I just celebrated my 26th birthday that weekend and got peer pressured by my neighborhood nail salon to try OPI’s “All Sparkly and Gold” glitter nail polish and all I can say is this is the ultimate Beyonce mani…P.S. you know we’re birthday twins right? 🙂

Beauty was directed by makeup artist, Louise Zizzo who used MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Cheeky Bronze to highlight cheek bones.

MAC lipstick in So Chaud gave a great coral hue with a touch of pink bronze pigment to add a metallic sheen. Lip pencil in Vino added definition to the pout.

This look is the perfect transition as we ease out of summer into fall: pretty, subtle and still adds a nice peachy glow.

Favorite Looks from the Show:

Pastel metallics were a common theme not only in the makeup but in the clothing itself down the runway — I loved this mix within the collection for spring/summer…wish I could rock it now!
