I don’t know about you but I’m over these freezing temps! But just because it’s dark and dreary out doesn’t mean your skin has to be.
It is possible to achieve a glow that will reminisce of your summer days with a few key products.
I was at brunch with a few friends over the weekend post snow storm and my friend Sophia admired my highlighter. I obviously had to get a pic and it inspired me to share a post with you all on what I use to achieve the look. See below 🙂
PAT MCGRATH SKIN FETISH 003 in GOLDEN – I have Instagram to thank for this purchase. World renowned make-up artist, Pat McGrath launched her own makeup line a few months back and I saw this highlighter teased out on Instagram by some of my favorite It Girls. I’m all about any product that helps you achieve that J.Lo glow so I had to have it. I immediately texted my make-up artist friend, Kendall because I knew she’d want this product as much as I did! So grateful to have a make-up obsessed friend like her because she was able to order it for me as it sold out so quickly and could barely make it in my cart! What’s cool about this product is that it has two ends on the stick –a balm to achieve a dewiness, a golden hue and then an illuminating powder to set the highlight stick with a special edition brush that comes with the kit. A little goes a long way — I like above my cheek bone and on the brow bone.
NARS BLUSH in GINA + DEEP THROAT– This is my everyday blush combo I am sharing with you all, you’re welcome. I wanted a matte peachy blush forever ago and came across this shade by Nars called Gina. However, that wasn’t enough. I needed a touch of sheen that wasn’t over the top shimmery to layer on top which resulted in the perfect pink shade called ‘Deep Throat’. It’s a toned down version of the favorite ‘Orgasm’ and it looks good on everyone. You’ll adore this combo – trust me.
I complete this look with a simple neutral lip color. I love Laura Mercier’s lip sheen in “Bare Lips”. Not only does it give a touch of rose sheen but is super moisturizing – win-win!
Hope these tips will not only brighten your skin but your day!
I was fortunate enough to be featured on one of my favorite sites, Why I Love New York City. Since I moved to New York four years ago, I’ve been following this site and have loved the stories people have shared. When asked to write about a special moment in New York I immediately thought back to my first job in the city, working New York Fashion Week…
Walking into this huge industrial space, I stared at rows and rows of open seats. I could feel my heart quicken as I realized in just a couple of hours I would be surrounded by chaos and impatient guests demanding to be seated. A voice to the right of me shook me from my thoughts as I watched a tall slender woman hurriedly run towards the catwalk, “but I have no make up!” She exclaimed in a curiously familiar accent. Before she turned I instantly knew who it was…. Gisele. There I was, Syma, from Fort Wayne, Indiana just a few feet away from her as she did a rehearsal walk down the runway. She didn’t need any make-up, she was absolutely flawless. It was insane to be around one of the worlds most famous supermodels at the Alexander Wang show. As the lights came down and I went quickly into fashion show mode doing my best intern duties to seat guests, the song “Regulate” by Warren G came on and I thought to myself, “this is the coolest thing I have ever done.
I was fortunate enough to work 12 shows including Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Victoria Beckham and Alexander Wang. It was unreal to actually have contact with some of my favorite fashion influencers like Nina Garcia and to see dynamic duo Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington in action. I was also star struck during the Marc Jacobs show seeing Marc Jacobs himself and Francois Nars. Being a bit beauty obsessed, seeing the creator of Nars cosmetics kind of made my life. And talk about #relationshipgoals when you spot David Beckham seated front row with the kids lit up with pride as he watched his wife’s work come down the runway.
I like to always think back at that time in my life when I start questioning New York. Some days I want to stay in bed and hide from the crowds but then I remember that NYC is the best thing that ever happened to me. Thank you, New York for making me grow up and learn what I can accomplish on my own. It’s true, there’s nothin’ you can’t do when you’re in this city — and I hope I always have that mentality wherever the road takes me.
Fall is somehow already here and the best time to maximize your wardrobe — it’s time to layer! I’ve put together my Top 5 Fall Essentials that I am craving this season.
1. Wide-Brim Hat — This particular hat is by Janessa Leone which I came across on Instagram and immediately fell in love. It’s definitely an investment piece being a bit on the pricier side but you can definitely achieve the same look for under $100 here.
2. The Black Ankle Boot — I never knew you could wear one shoe so much. Being in the city this shoe can transition from fall to summer. I wear this style all year long and this pair by Rachel Comey looks great with jeans or a skirt — not to mention, comfortable too! Definitely worth the splurge as you’ll get endless wear out of this item.
3. The Dark Lip — Previously I called this “The Lorde Lip” but I am still loving “Volga” by Nars. It’s the perfect shade of dark berry burgundy that you can intensify to a stain or mix in with gloss for a toned down berry hue. This shade looks amazing on a variety of skin tones and I would highly recommend – don’t be afraid!
4. The Leather Jacket — Again, another investment piece which I could do an entirely separate post (coming soon?) on but now there are so many great faux leather options that won’t break the bank. I’m loving this one from American Eagle Outfitters – for under $100 – you can’t beat it.
5. The Blanket Scarf — A staple for life. You can wear this Wilfred Scarf from Aritzia can be worn in a couple different ways; around your neck, a shawl or even a poncho. This tribal print makes a statement and I’m into this color combo of maroon and navy — a great pop of color in a sea of black.
What items are you going to add to your wardrobe? Serious staples that every girl should have!
Just because the weather outside is drab doesn’t mean your skin has to be! For as long as I can remember I have admired Jennifer Lopez’s dewy skin and don’t think anyone’s make-up has ever looked more flawless. (Sorry Kardashians!)
This woman has mastered the glow, or at least her glam squad has. Let me take you back to the “I’m Real Remix” video featuring Ja Rule — have you ever seen anyone wear a fedora and look that amazing with perfectly contoured face and highlighted cheekbones? Didn’t think so. This video was not only a favorite of mine for it’s lyrical genius or Ja Rule’s very on-trend leather baseball hat but it’s basically an anthem. Please feel free to play as you read along to these beauty tips!
Oily skin girls — put down the mattifiers! It’s time to embrace your natural sheen in the right places and those with dry skin I will enlighten you with some go-to products to get close to looking like Jenny from the Block.
Post amazing skincare routine (moisturize!), put on your base – a tinted moisturizer or lightweight foundation and mix in a pea sized amount of liquid illuminator, like Nars ‘Orgasm‘ to give a touch of rosey golden glow.
Next, take a matte bronzer like Smashbox, Suntan Matte, to contour the face with an angled brush. For this, just swipe the bronzer with a light hand under the apples of the cheeks in an upward motion. Be sure to blend so you don’t get the dreaded stripe so it looks natural. Be sure to brush along your jawline and top of forehead to even out.
After bronzer, it’s time to add that signature J.Lo peachy tone to the cheeks. I love Nars ‘Gina‘ blush, it’s a shade that looks really great on a wide range of complexions. Take your blush brush and swirl around the apples of your cheeks again with a light hand.
Now time to highlight – most important! With a feather brush, dust a bit of Too Faced ‘Sun Bunny‘ on just the tops of your cheeks — I guarantee this will give you a beautiful shimmer without tacky sparkle.
Lastly, take a concealer brush using Benefit Cosmetic ‘Watts Up‘ (a favorite of mine) to add the last touch of glow. Kendall Bennewitz, an NYC based make-up artist says, “only put highlighter on temples, bridge of the nose and tops of the cheeks.”
End with a nude lip like Marc Jacobs lip gloss in ‘Sweet Escape‘ and hello — you’re J to the L – O.
