whitedress

This summer, I am all about the LWD — otherwise known as the Little White Dress.

I dreamed about this silhouette from Aritzia (as I do most things) when I spotted it on the racks when it was still freezing in NYC. I decided to purchase and stay optimistic thinking one day summer may indeed come and I can rock this dress with open toe shoes and bare legs.

Finally – summer arrived and it’s insanely hot in NYC. The instant fix? This easy breezy dress that I can take from day to night.

I wanted to show you fellow Fashionistas the versatility of this dress by simple switching up your accessory game.

For a casual day look – I love this paired with a flat cognac sandal, turquoise jewelry and my new favorite tassel earrings. For the summer heat, I love the hairstyle that has been trending over your Instagram feed: the half bun.

This look is perfect for the office, brunch out with the girls, or a fun day date.

For the evening it’s all about your shoes. To add some edge, I paired this dress with my statement heels from Zara. The red gives that extra pop you need that elevates the look into night.

I literally “let my hair down” and embraced my natural waves to switch up my look. It’s important to embrace your natural texture in this season because no matter how much you may try to fight it — the humidity will win.

If you want to add more shape, this dress comes with an adorable rope belt you can tie for a more fitted look. However, I love this dress loose. It has so much movement, and the hem comes up just a bit on the sides to show-off a bit of leg which never hurt anyone.

Are you ready to rock this look day to night? (Cue Kid Cudi.)

SKINCARE SPOTLIGHT: MARIO BADESCU

It’s no secret – ever since I moved to New York I have loved getting facials at Mario Badescu.

Not only is it an affordable facial, but the estheticians are so kind and really take the time to evaluate your skin and understand what type of regimen is best for your skin type. I highly suggest their spa if you’re in the city!

I have always had sensitive skin so once a product works for me – I stay loyal. When it comes to MB I’ve stayed true to their Seaweed Cleansing Lotion. It’s a great toner that balances the oiliness of my skin and give that extra clean finish after cleansing. There isn’t alcohol in the toner so it never makes your skin feel tight or irritated.

If my skin is every feeling a bit on the the dry side, I love the Herbal Hydrating Serum. It gives an extra boost of hydration that still feels light.

My latest obsession? The Vitamin C Serum. Not only does it smell amazing — but it is a great addition to my skincare regimen to boost brightness.

I am super excited that MB has released a new scrub – the Botanical Exfoliating Scrub. I’m always looking for a good exfoliator to mix into my routine and this one is gentle enough that it won’t irritate or cause break-outs. (Win-win!)

Thanks Mario Badescu for sending me the below – so excited to rotate these products into my beauty regimen!

HAIR TO WEAR WHERE: GIRL’S NIGHT OUT

04 . 22 . 15

It’s finally getting warmer and those long months of hibernating and staying in on Friday nights with Netflix is becoming a thing of the past!

Test out these fun manespiration ideas for your next girl’s night out. We love taking more risks when we’re hanging with our best girls. Whether it’s asking that hottie at the bar for his number or experimenting with a sky high ponytail — this is your time to try something new.

 THE SKY HIGH PONY

Dance the night away without worrying about your hair falling flat! We love a girly ponytail for a night out on the town. Add some tease to the crown and pump up the volume with this flirty style. Must have: hair bungees.

THE SLICKED BACK

Wet hair? Don’t care. This bold style is the perfect look to add some edge and paired with a smokey eye…you’ll be turning heads left and right. We suggest using Oribe Original Pomade for a shiny finish and hold.

THE ESSENTIALS

Just because winter is dull and dreary doesn’t mean your skin has to be! It is very important you invest time in your skin care especially in these colder months when our skin is struggling the most.

WINTER SKIN SURVIVAL KIT

1. Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub Unlike what TLC told us, this is one scrub you do want. This exfoliator is for the days you feel like your skin is dull and dreary similar to the weather outside when you just long for brighter more radiant skin. I love this scrub because it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. Believe me, I am someone that gets a weird allergic reaction to most scented cosmetics but this fresh blueberry scent doesn’t bother me – it feels so good getting all the dead skin off but definitely don’t use more than once a week!

2. Mario Badescu Healing & Soothing Mask This mask saves lives. Not exactly but any time I feel like my skin is getting dry or a potential allergic reaction to something I slather this on my face and let it sit 20 minutes. After I rinse off, my skin has never felt smoother. Everyone needs this mask – and at only $20.00, you should get one for your boyfriend, mom, sister and brother too!

3. Cerave Moisturizing Lotion – A drugstore favorite. I’ve talked about this moisturizer before but it had to be done again. I got recommended this by my dermatologist and haven’t looked back since. It gives just the right amount of moisture to my skin without feeling greasy. It also is unscented and perfect for sensitive skin types like me. It also comes in a huge bottle which might not be the most travel-friendly but you won’t run out for months which is great!

4. Bite Whipped Cherry Lip Scrub If you read my previous post on the Bite Beauty Lip Lab you know I am a strong advocate for lip scrubs. In these winter months our lips tend to feel so dry it’s hard to wear our favorite lip colors. However, investing in a lip scrub like this helps remove all the dead skin just like a scrub would do for your face to allow a perfect canvas for your favorite new lipstick.

5. Aquaphor Another drug store miracle. This balm is the perfect follow-up post lip scrub. It is super moisturizing for your lips in need and also can be great for any cuts or cracked skin. It comes in multiple sizes. I suggest the large bottle for home and the smaller size to throw in your bag when you’re on the go.

6. L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream Cracked skin is not cute, not to mention painful! With the constant washing of our hands in these cooler months our hands really suffer. It’s super important to invest in a hand cream to keep your hands as soft as possible. The smell of this cream isn’t overbearing and works really well to sooth skin when it needs it most.

7. Lush Sympathy for the SkinThis lotion is bananas. No really, it’s made from organic mashed bananas, vanilla extract, lemon oil and sandalwood. If that doesn’t sound like a dream, I don’t know what is. I love lush products and this lotion does a great job at moisturizing my skin without leaving a filmy residue.

I swear by these products for an (almost) flawless complexion. Pretty soon you’ll be feeling like B and saying, “I woke up like this!”

TOP BEAUTY LOOKS: GRAMMY’S 2015

I am usually all about posting my “Best Dressed” picks after a major award show but after being a bit underwhelmed on this year’s Grammy red carpet I decided to switch gears and focus on what did blow me away — the beauty!

From the highlighting to the perfect contour — this year the make-up artists truly brought it! Who were your favorites?

RIHANNA

Rihanna wins the night for perfect contouring. Her makeup was fresh and glowy with strong brows. A look that will never go out of style.

BEYONCE

Beyonce + Beach waves + Bronze = Flawless. Queen B looked effortless. I love when she switches it up and forgets the smokey eye – it can be unexpected on a red carpet and let her true beauty shine through.

CHRISSY

Chrissy Teigen followed Queen B and kept it simple with beach waves and warm bronzey makeup. I love this look on an olive complexion. Her added cat-eye was just enough to glam up the red carpet.

KIM K.

Even Kim K. is doing it. Goodbye extensions and hello lob. Kim worked the red carpet debuting her new haircut with her signature smokey eye and nude lip. Werk it.

T. SWIFT

Taylor Swift’s eyes never stood out more to me than with this look. Her lashes looked amazing and kept the rest simple with sleek strands and a statement earring.

ANNA K.

Anna Kendrick, is that you?! I’ve never seen her look better. An exaggerated side part and loose waves needs to be the look she rocks every award show. A sleek winged eyeliner added just enough to her menswear inspired look.

ESSENTIALS: FALL 2014

Fall Essentials 2014

Fall is somehow already here and the best time to maximize your wardrobe — it’s time to layer! I’ve put together my Top 5 Fall Essentials that I am craving this season.

1. Wide-Brim Hat — This particular hat is by Janessa Leone which I came across on Instagram and immediately fell in love. It’s definitely an investment piece being a bit on the pricier side but you can definitely achieve the same look for under $100 here.

2. The Black Ankle Boot — I never knew you could wear one shoe so much. Being in the city this shoe can transition from fall to summer. I wear this style all year long and this pair by Rachel Comey looks great with jeans or a skirt — not to mention, comfortable too! Definitely worth the splurge as you’ll get endless wear out of this item.

3. The Dark Lip — Previously I called this “The Lorde Lip” but I am still loving “Volga” by Nars. It’s the perfect shade of dark berry burgundy that you can intensify to a stain or mix in with gloss for a toned down berry hue. This shade looks amazing on a variety of skin tones and I would highly recommend – don’t be afraid!

4. The Leather Jacket — Again, another investment piece which I could do an entirely separate post (coming soon?) on but now there are so many great faux leather options that won’t break the bank. I’m loving this one from American Eagle Outfitters – for under $100 – you can’t beat it.

5. The Blanket Scarf — A staple for life. You can wear this Wilfred Scarf from Aritzia can be worn in a couple different ways; around your neck, a shawl or even a poncho. This tribal print makes a statement and I’m into this color combo of maroon and navy — a great pop of color in a sea of black.

What items are you going to add to your wardrobe? Serious staples that every girl should have!

BACKSTAGE PASS: New York Fashion Week

It’s that time of year again…your Instagram feed is flooded with #NYFW and blurred images of runway models are all filling your phones. NYC, always known for its street style kicks it up a notch as the buzz from the venues spills out into the street.

I had the opportunity to attend the David Tlale show and get a sneak peek backstage. I may love what happens behind the runway more than what goes down the runway. The frenzied action and stacks of make-up sent my beauty obsessed heart soaring.

I love to see the models getting ready, what make-up tricks the artists are using and just how they accomplish that signature “runway glow”.

Well my dear readers, if you always wanted to look behind the velvet curtain…look no further and come enjoy some highlights of my Sunday at Lincoln Center below:

I decided I was officially ready for a fall color palette so I paired this Wilfred dress from Aritiza from my closet for a classic silhouette. I added some edge with my American Eagle Outfitters moto vest for some “tomboy chic” and completed my look with my go-to All Saints grey pumps, Zara studded clutch to add some texture and Michael Kors watch. On my nails? I just celebrated my 26th birthday that weekend and got peer pressured by my neighborhood nail salon to try OPI’s “All Sparkly and Gold” glitter nail polish and all I can say is this is the ultimate Beyonce mani…P.S. you know we’re birthday twins right? 🙂

Beauty was directed by makeup artist, Louise Zizzo who used MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Cheeky Bronze to highlight cheek bones.

MAC lipstick in So Chaud gave a great coral hue with a touch of pink bronze pigment to add a metallic sheen. Lip pencil in Vino added definition to the pout.

This look is the perfect transition as we ease out of summer into fall: pretty, subtle and still adds a nice peachy glow.

Favorite Looks from the Show:

Pastel metallics were a common theme not only in the makeup but in the clothing itself down the runway — I loved this mix within the collection for spring/summer…wish I could rock it now!

A casual appearance by male supermodel Tyson Beckford didn’t hurt either…

After the show we caught these male models heading out still in their looks and skateboard in hand ready to hit the next show! The ultimate street style.

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY — J. Lo Glow

Just because the weather outside is drab doesn’t mean your skin has to be! For as long as I can remember I have admired Jennifer Lopez’s dewy skin and don’t think anyone’s make-up has ever looked more flawless. (Sorry Kardashians!)

This woman has mastered the glow, or at least her glam squad has. Let me take you back to the “I’m Real Remix” video featuring Ja Rule — have you ever seen anyone wear a fedora and look that amazing with perfectly contoured face and highlighted cheekbones? Didn’t think so. This video was not only a favorite of mine for it’s lyrical genius or Ja Rule’s very on-trend leather baseball hat but it’s basically an anthem. Please feel free to play as you read along to these beauty tips!

Oily skin girls — put down the mattifiers! It’s time to embrace your natural sheen in the right places and those with dry skin I will enlighten you with some go-to products to get close to looking like Jenny from the Block.

  • Post amazing skincare routine (moisturize!), put on your base – a tinted moisturizer or lightweight foundation and mix in a pea sized amount of liquid illuminator, like Nars ‘Orgasm‘ to give a touch of rosey golden glow.
  • Next, take a matte bronzer like Smashbox, Suntan Matte, to contour the face with an angled brush. For this, just swipe the bronzer with a light hand under the apples of the cheeks in an upward motion. Be sure to blend so you don’t get the dreaded stripe so it looks natural. Be sure to brush along your jawline and top of forehead to even out.
  • After bronzer, it’s time to add that signature J.Lo peachy tone to the cheeks. I love Nars ‘Gina‘ blush, it’s a shade that looks really great on a wide range of complexions. Take your blush brush and swirl around the apples of your cheeks again with a light hand.
  • Now time to highlight – most important! With a feather brush, dust a bit of Too Faced ‘Sun Bunny‘ on just the tops of your cheeks — I guarantee this will give you a beautiful shimmer without tacky sparkle.
  • Lastly, take a concealer brush using Benefit Cosmetic ‘Watts Up‘ (a favorite of mine) to add the last touch of glow. Kendall Bennewitz, an NYC based make-up artist says, “only put highlighter on temples, bridge of the nose and tops of the cheeks.”
  • End with a nude lip like Marc Jacobs lip gloss in ‘Sweet Escape‘  and hello — you’re J  to the L – O.

Let’s dance.
