There’s nothing like leather jacket weather in New York. October is here and the temps have cooled down making it the best time to break out your little moto jacket. It’s the perfect piece to edge up an outfit and give the ultimate ‘cool girl’ vibe.

I had quite the debate when choosing a leather jacket. It’s a big decision in your wardrobe! You want to invest in one that gives you a buttery feel and instantly boosts your confidence when you put it on. I was back and forth between two options — it was serious. Ask my friends, family, coworkers, loved ones…strangers…you name it, they were involved. I finally let my heart decide — Zara, you won me over.

It’s kind of amazing — every time I would see a girl on the street in NYC in a great leather jacket and asked where she got it thinking it was from an outrageous unattainable brand…she’d say, “Oh it’s from Zara!” — and then I knew, Zara, you were the one.

I love the shape of this one because it’s not too bulky and still feels feminine. I can still layer a sweater underneath but also easily wear over a tank or tee.

I adore gold. This tank was a fun find at Forever 21. Champagne gold is so flattering on a variety of skin tones. It gives such a pretty sheen. I styled it with my go-to “Mom” jeans from American Eagle Outfitters. I’m all about a high-waisted denim.

Now for accessories, I added nude pumps from Mango and a vintage sequin bag because you can never have enough sparkle.

To complete my look, I paired these minimal gold earrings I found from a designer on Etsy, Kalliste,– you must check out her shop!

Now recreate this look and please blast, “Cool Girl”  by Tove Lo while doing it because that’s what I’m jamming to right now.🙂

I love a statement earring. There’s no reason not to try this trend when there are so many affordable options out there! It’s the perfect way to dress up a simple white t-shirt, off-the-shoulder blouse or add some excitement to your little black dress. I’ve rounded up my favorites from Baublebar, H&M and Aldo. At these prices, you can afford all of them, and more! #ballinonabudget

The 4TH

The 4TH

Can’t believe it’s almost time for the 4th! Currently procrastinating packing for my trip home and making an inspiration board instead. This year I feel like taking a break from my go-to nautical stripes and am feelin’ an all white ensemble. A simple white tank with a pair of cropped white denim is all I want to wear. A frayed hem is key to this outfit. (Feel free to get the scissors out on an old pair of jeans you own to try this trend.)

It’s all about straw accessories. Whether it’s structured bags or my favorite accessory of last summer that is still going strong — the straw boater hat — it’s a summer must-have! I’m borderline obsessed with the straw pom pom bags, it adds the perfect texture to any outfit.
Also, I am loving a slip on sandal. Not only are they extremely comfortable, but they make me feel like an Olsen twin — effortless and cool. They’re also a dream to wear to the airport and can be dressed up or down.
Add a pop of color with an orangey-coral lip. This shade looks good on just about everyone. Currently loving Mac’s “Fruit Cocktail” lipliner for this.

For a night of fireworks ahead — a denim jacket, like this oversized style from American Eagle ties my look together (literally). I love tying a denim jacket around my waist to break up the monotone look.

Hope I inspired your look for a fun weekend ahead! Happy 4th!

Blue jeans and bombers are never a bad idea. For a cool summer night, I love a great oversized jacket with a fitted top and jeans.

I’m obsessed with this jacket designed by Amanda Litzinger of Stickybaby. She will most likely have a piece of clothing to match your #currentmood in the most stylish way.

Layered underneath is a peek of a lace-up top from American Eagle. We’ve been seeing these trend go full force thanks to Reformation. (I can’t get enough!) You definitely need one in your wardrobe this summer.

I’m a jeans kind of girl. These Denim X style also by American Eagle are as comfortable as a legging but has that great distressing and edge that only denim can give.

To dress things up, I paired this look with my favorite grey All Saints pumps. The word that comes to mind when I put these on? Slay. (All day)

This jacket is guaranteed to give you all the feels.

Somehow we skipped Spring and went full force into 85 degrees in NYC. What does that mean? Dress weather!

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

I’m a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl most days but in the summer sometimes it’s just easier throwing on a dress in one simple step. Miraculously you look instantly put together and super feminine. I’ve rounded up my top five favorites to keep you looking stylish all season long…

Screen Shot 2016-06-01 at 9.25.02 PM

  1. Off-The-Shoulder — Can’t stop wearing off-the-shoulder everything. This denim dream is from Zara has all the elements you want in a dress – did I mention the pockets?!

Screen Shot 2016-06-01 at 9.30.01 PM

2. LWD — The little white dress. The cutest option by American Eagle Outfitters. Obsessed with the tassel detail and embroidery.

Screen Shot 2016-06-01 at 9.30.35 PM

3. The Slip Dress — If you don’t have a slip dress already in your wardrobe – you need one. Perfect when you want to look casual chic. I love this paired with sneakers or a great pair of fringy heels for date night. I love this style by Aritzia.

Screen Shot 2016-06-01 at 9.31.31 PM

4. The Shirt Dress — Everyone needs a shirt dress. This style by Aerie is a great staple for your wardrobe. I love the linen fabric and stripe detailing. The belt is also super cute and will look amazing on multiple dresses all summer long!

Screen Shot 2016-06-01 at 9.32.13 PM

5. I love this maxi from Zara. Easy, breezy & bright! I’m loving yellow this season — it’s such a flattering color and makes a bold statement.

This spring the weather has been a little all over the place. This week has really warmed up but some days it turns back to cooler temps so it’s important to be prepared and layer it up!

What I can’t stop wearing? A moto jacket and stripe tees. I was so excited last fall when I got this jacket from Aritzia and I love that I can transition it into spring/summer easily with my Aerie stripe t-shirt. Around this time of year, I’m all about a bold nautical stripe. It’s a timeless trend that always looks great.

My favorite accessory of the moment? Round sunglasses. I love this style by EyeBuyDirect — it’s a take on the classic round Ray-Bans for a fraction of the cost. Be sure to check them out, here.

Paired with a my current favorite American Eagle high waisted jeans and menswear inspired flats I’m ready for any spring day that comes my way — warm or cool.

I was fortunate enough to be featured on one of my favorite sites, Why I Love New York City. Since I moved to New York four years ago, I’ve been following this site and have loved the stories people have shared. When asked to write about a special moment in New York  I immediately thought back to my first job in the city, working New York Fashion Week…

Walking into this huge industrial space, I stared at rows and rows of open seats. I could feel my heart quicken as I realized in just a couple of hours I would be surrounded by chaos and impatient guests demanding to be seated. A voice to the right of me shook me from my thoughts as I watched a tall slender woman hurriedly run towards the catwalk, “but I have no make up!” She exclaimed in a curiously familiar accent. Before she turned I instantly knew who it was…. Gisele. There I was, Syma, from Fort Wayne, Indiana just a few feet away from her as she did a rehearsal walk down the runway. She didn’t need any make-up, she was absolutely flawless. It was insane to be around one of the worlds most famous supermodels at the Alexander Wang show. As the lights came down and I went quickly into fashion show mode doing my best intern duties to seat guests, the song “Regulate” by Warren G came on and I thought to myself, “this is the coolest thing I have ever done.

I was fortunate enough to work 12 shows including Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Victoria Beckham and Alexander Wang. It was unreal to actually have contact with some of my favorite fashion influencers like Nina Garcia and to see dynamic duo Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington in action. I was also star struck during the Marc Jacobs show seeing Marc Jacobs himself and Francois Nars. Being a bit beauty obsessed, seeing the creator of Nars cosmetics kind of made my life. And talk about #relationshipgoals when you spot David Beckham seated front row with the kids lit up with pride as he watched his wife’s work come down the runway.

I like to always think back at that time in my life when I start questioning New York. Some days I want to stay in bed and hide from the crowds but then I remember that NYC is the best thing that ever happened to me. Thank you, New York for making me grow up and learn what I can accomplish on my own. It’s true, there’s nothin’ you can’t do when you’re in this city — and I hope I always have that mentality wherever the road takes me.

May has arrived and somehow in NYC it’s still super cold, gloomy and rainy. Not exactly the spring weather I’ve been dreaming of all winter long…

So the question is how do you dress for this weather when it’s gross out but want to feel springy and stylish? Layer.

The one coat you need for the season is a soft trench coat. I like this style over a traditional structured style because it can add movement to your outfit, dress it up and feels super feminine. I bought this jacket a few years back from Aritzia. They make amazing outerwear — you can find a similar style, here.

My go-to outfit is my grey high waisted American Eagle jeans and grey v-neck tee. I love a good monochrome outfit but I like to update it with accessories.

I can’t get enough of the bandana scarf. A simple and inexpensive accessory is the perfect way to add a little something to your look. I love this pale pink bandana with my grey and tan jacket — one of my favorite color combos.HOSTING_031316_0140

Paired with my suede taupe booties found at Forever 21 (major score) and my Instagram famous round Ray-Bans I feel ready for any type of weather NYC throws at me…in style.

JACKET: ARITZIA (similar here)

TEE: J.CREW (similar here)

What I wear more than anything? Grey tops + jeans. This combination will never get old to me. However, the type of silhouette of your top can take your classic t-shirt and jeans to a whole different level. Queue: the off-the-shoulder top.

I’ve been obsessed with off-the-shoulder anything since last spring and I’m so excited this trend is here to stay. One day I was browsing one of the 100 H&M’s in NYC and there it was – the perfect update to my grey tee collection: the off-the-shoulder grey top! I envisioned another Kendall Jenner outfit recreation and had to purchase.

I paired the top with my go-to high waisted American Eagle Outfitters jeans that are this amazing saturated indigo blue. These jeans seriously do not lose their shape — the Denim X technology is incredible wear after wear – I highly reccommend!

Now to accessorize — I completed my look with the belt of the moment: the concho belt. I’m pretty sure my oldest sister wore this belt in high school (mid 90’s) and I kind of wish she still had it. I found this one for under 10 bucks at Forever 21 — it was a must buy!

Next, I added a simple gold choker, my latest round Ray-Bans (obsessed) and my beloved Dolce Vita ankle boots.

Are you ready to recreate?

Welcome to The Glossier Penthouse

I’ve been a fan of Into The Gloss for as long as I can remember and think Emily Weiss, the creator, is a genius and major #girlBOSS. I was fan-girling out when Into The Gloss launched their beauty line, Glossier.  Scrolling through Instagram this past weekend, I saw that the Glossier Penthouse was open once again to show off their latest collection. I texted my best girlfriends and made a day of it!

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

From the Phase 1 collection, I own the Perfecting Skin Tint and Balm Dot Calm (best name ever) so I was excited to see the latest products up close and in-person. If you’re in NYC and a beauty lover like me, I highly suggest you check out the space! First off, it’s beautiful. Located in Soho, the penthouse is beautifully decorated with insane natural light, an amazing terrace, clean white counter-tops, touches of the signature Glossier pink from it’s packaging and a model-filled mood board. I was also obsessed with the hip hop jams playing while I was testing beauty products. Basically, me living the dream.Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

I can never pass up a new lipstick, so I immediately focused on the new lip stains featured in the new collection called, _Generation G. This is the perfect everyday lip. It goes on like a balm but wears like a lip stain. The color is sheer but can build to the intensity you want. I chose the ‘Crush’ shade which is a stunning berry pink. This color is totally universal and looks amazing on a variety of skin tones. I rocked it the next day and got a ton of compliments. Definitely a great way to start a Monday. Be sure to check out all four shades.Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Another fun new addition to the Glossier family is the Stretch Concealer. It wears very smooth and easy to apply. Not cakey or flat and gives a nice dewy finish – ideal for under eyes and to offer some brightness which everyone needs in their life.

I’m not one to pencil-in my brows but I’ve heard awesome things about the ‘Boy Brow’ if you want to get your Cara Delevingne on. This wonder wand is also part of the Phase 2 kit and is a great way to make your brows stand out. I also left the penthouse with one more purchase, The _Priming Moisturizer. I tried a dab on my hand and it felt incredibly soft — I basically wanted to buy 10 bottles for my entire body but I settled on one for now.

The girls in the showroom were so helpful and it was so fun talking beauty with them as they are just as obsessed as I am. Definitely check the space out if you’re in the New York area, I know they will be open again this coming weekend. Find out more on their Instagram, here.

The forecast has been a little all over the place in NYC but we’ve had a few amazing days hit the high 60’s which basically makes me feel like a completely different person. Like I said in my last post, I can’t officially put my parka away but my go-to Spring jackets are making their way to the front of my closet and I couldn’t be more excited! I’ve rounded up a few favorites for you to transition into the new spring season with ease — hopefully you’ll get a little inspiration from the below!

Screen Shot 2016-03-17 at 6.54.01 PM

I love this AEO classic military jacket. This style is boxy and fits a bit oversized. A timeless piece and a must-have in your closet.

The perfect Anorak from Aritzia. The hood saves you on rainy days and won’t go out of style.

Screen Shot 2016-03-17 at 6.59.55 PM

Everyone need a good denim jacket. AEO never fails to give you this classic. This borrowed from the boys inspired fit will add just the amount of edge to the cute spring dress you’ve been dying to wear!

You can never go wrong with a trench jacket. This structured style by Aritzia is a great staple to add to your wardrobe. Mix it up with some clean white sneaks for a minimal and clean look.

Screen Shot 2016-03-17 at 7.00.08 PM

I really can’t get enough of the bomber jacket. This is my fourth one I bought but “can’t stop won’t stop” – it’s the perfect update to take me into spring in style, found at Zara.

Daylight savings has occurred and we’ve had a couple of amazing warm spring-like days in NYC…

Just when I thought I could put my parka away for good (rejoice!) it’s somehow freezing again in the big city.

Before we go full-on spring closet flip — let’s keep it real. We might as well get some CPW (cost per wear) out of our favorite winter sweaters, right?

I love an oversized sweater with a leather legging. This look is by Aritzia. I love the oatmeal shade of this sweater. It’s super cozy and insanely warm.

I’m always into a good texture mix so I brought back my go-to leather leggings to keep it cool and sleek.

My favorite accessory of the moment? The bandana. First I was a little nervous about the whole neck-tie thing but again, blame the world of Instagram to see so many of my favorite Fashionistas rocking it.  (Tutorial coming soon!)

I styled this bandana like a choker. It gives a little bit of edge to any look.

Added my American Eagle Outfitters sunnies, Rebecca Minkoff cross-body purse and my Sam Edelman booties and I’m good to go.🙂

Don’t worry…we won’t be wearing sweaters for too much longer but while we are we might as well be cute — wise words to live by from Reformation:

One of the most exciting moments of my life happened recently… I was featured on WhoWhatWear.com! If you are not familiar with the website, I highly recommend checking it out. It is one of my go-to fashion sites for trends, tips and the inside scoop on the industry. What made the moment even better, the picture they chose features one of my key wardrobe staples – the bomber jacket. If you recall, I did a post awhile ago on Syma Speaks on ‘athleisure’ — I rocked my American Eagle Outfitters bomber jacket and am thrilled this trend is here to stay.

I wanted to revamp the look a bit with a little inspiration from one of my favorite models of the moment, Kendall Jenner.

There’s nothing I love more than a model-off-duty look and Kendall nails it every time. Kendall has mastered the athleisure look to make leggings look completely put together and the epitome of cool.

This look is super simple to recreate and you can wear these pieces multiple times which gives you even more reason to shop them below.

I started my look with my black bomber jacket. Yes, I also own this jacket in olive green but when an item is so good, you buy every color – right?

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Layered underneath, is this cool sports bra from Aerie. I love the color-blocking. This bra fits like a crop top, so it’s a perfect match with a hi-rise legging. These high-waisted leggings are also from American Eagle Outfitters – they have a great feel and won’t stretch out which is exactly what you want in a legging for endless wear.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Accessorized with the bag that perfectly mirrors my motto in life, “After This We’re Getting Pizza”. The bag is a great size to keep a change of clothes if you’re hitting the gym or packing some weekend essentials for your next getaway.

Add my sleek Nike sneakers and go-to Ray-Bans and I’m ready to hit my favorite dance class or do a little shopping in style.

All yours for under $15.00.

Having #KylieLipKit FOMO? We’ve all been there. Even if you’re not following Kylie Jenner — I’m sure you have heard of The Kylie Lip Kit.

We might have to blame Instagram, but beauty fanatics everywhere know all we want in our make-up bag right now is a matte lipgloss. However, the Kylie Lip Kit isn’t so easy to get our hands on so I’ve found the next best thing. Actually, the next best three things…

On a recent trip to Chicago, my sister and I went a little lip gloss crazy at Ulta — we tend to get very excited not only when we see each other but when we hit the make-up aisle at any drugstore.

My top three matte lip gloss brands ranked?

#1 – L ‘Oreal

What is hilarious is that I saw the L’Oreal Pro-Matte Lipgloss promoted on Nylon.com and took a screenshot and sent it to my sisters the week before. Just a few hours later, I received snapchats from both of them with the new gloss — they had purchased that day! As you can tell, beauty obsession runs in the family. The L’Oreal definitely feels the best on and gives you an instant pop of color. You really only need one swipe and you’re golden for the day. That’s right — after a few hours I didn’t need to reapply. I love ‘Statement Nude’ in this line — it’s a rosey nude shade that is perfect for everyday wear.

#2 – Maybelline

The Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid is a close second. I purchased “Nude Thrill” and I have no regrets. The perfect mix of brown with a hint of pink so it doesn’t completely wash me out.

#3 – NYX

And last but certainly not least, NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. I picked up Abu Dhabi and Tokyo. I would definitely say these are the best ones to mix other lip colors with. Abu Dhabi is also closest to the signature Kylie “Dolce K” lip color. These glide on super smooth but aren’t completely matte. They offer insane color so I like mixing them when you want to brighten or darken a shade.

Each lipgloss is under $15.00, there’s no reason not to try them all! I highly recommend.

Can’t wait to see your matte lip selfies!

_MG_5250Not only one of my favorite Jay Z albums but when I wear ‘all black everything’ I feel like a bo$$.

Maybe, it’s living in New York for four years now (crazy how time flies) but there’s nothing I love more than some monotone.

Wearing one color makes this outfit super easy to recreate if I do say so myself. (Are you sick of my Jay Z lines yet? I’m not.)

This entire outfit besides my accessories are from one of my favorite stores, Aritzia. They’re known for their killer outerwear and I am obsessed with their sweaters/everything they have.

This coat is the Aubertin coat by Wilfred. It is the perfect long black coat that not only dresses up your look but is insanely warm. The oversized pockets are great to hold your large iPhone Plus (I just got one) so that’s definitely a “plus” in my book.

I’m a big fan of oversized sweaters, there’s nothing cozier you can put on in these cooler months as we are still making our way through winter. This sweater is the Tyrion Sweater by Babaton. It’s a super thick knit that feels like you borrowed it from your favorite boy but has a feminine cut with the v-like neckline — basically the perfect sweater.

EDIT-10Lastly, the faux leather legging. I’ve had these Wilfred Free Daria leggings for years and they never fail. I love wearing them with a simple black bootie — mine are the Petty’s by Sam Edelman — or adding a cool white sneaker to keep it casual. The perfect pant to take you from day to night. These also have a nice hi-rise so they won’t sag which is never a good look.

_MG_5296IMG_0213To accessorize — this is a fringe bag I got forever ago in college from H&M. I was super excited fringe came back in a big way this past year so I could break out this bad boy again. You can find a similar version here.

Are you ready to rock all black everything? I got 99 problems but my outfit isn’t one…hit me:

Blanket Scarf 101

Back by popular demand (my sister), I’ve decided to do an updated post on how to wear my favorite winter accessory — the blanket scarf!

Many of my friends know that I’m a bit addicted to this large accessory from Aritzia. In these colder months, it saves me walking around this chilly city! If you don’t own one yet, I highly suggest buying one for yourself, your mom, your sister and your girlfriend too!

There are many ways to wear it — so prepare to be amazed!

Also, how fun is this gif?

Let’s begin — I like to first fold it diagonally so it’s a bit easier to work with.

The Shawl – When it’s not too cold, this is a perfect way to drape the scarf to add some texture and color to your look. A great sub when you don’t feel like wearing a coat. Especially on a day like today where it was randomly 50 degrees in NYC!

2. Swaddle Me – I’m a new Aunt to my baby nephew Ali — let’s just say babies aren’t the only ones who can get their swaddle on. (Lol) Sure you might not be able to move your arms but you’re going to be super comfy and warm all day long!

3. The Classic – Fashion meets function. Your safest bet to stay warm all winter long. Your scarf tied with an easy loop around your neck won’t go anywhere. Sometimes I completely cover my mouth and throw on my parka with a hood. Your friends might say, “Are you climbing Mt. Everest” (true story) but who cares — anything for warmth!

4. Flip It and Reverse It – Take a cue from Missy (she’s back!) and wear the reverse side of your blanket scarf the next time you drape it like a shawl. I’ve been loving winter whites and creams this season to brighten my everyday look in a sea of black parkas.

Add my favorite camel coat and I’m ready for a very fashionable February!

All I need is coffee..mascara…an oversized grey cardigan…ripped jeans and maybe a slice of pizza.

I was never a coffee drinker. I somehow made it through college without drinking one drop of coffee. I was the girl that ordered a hot chocolate when friends wanted to grab a cup of joe. Then soon the real world hit — where it somehow became the thing to do. It was like being at a college party and feeling the peer pressure — “What?! You don’t drink coffee?!”

I felt out of the loop — coffee time was a sacred moment at the office where coworkers could share fun stories and recap their weekend — if I didn’t partake I might not be part of the conversation – the horror!

Then one summer, an intern we had enlightened me. “Syma, why don’t you add some hot chocolate to your cup of coffee, then you’ll have an instant mocha!” Pure genius.
Four years later, I still drink coffee with hot chocolate mix — I apologize to my dentist but for now this is the only way it can happen.

So now what do I need in the AM besides coffee and my solid 15 minute morning routine? Mascara. This tee from Aerie couldn’t be cuter or more Insta-worthy if I do say so myself (Jay Z voice).

Sadly, it’s freezing out so I couldn’t show you the beautiful low-back but I love the soft jersey this tee is made in. I paired this tee for a casual coffee run with my American Eagle Outfitters Tomgirl jeans and oversized cardi.

In the Tomgirls I size down 2 sizes — I’ve never loved a super slouchy jean on myself so these still feel like I won’t lose my shape but give that effortless look I always love.

A simple grey cardigan, also from American Eagle Outfitters is all you’ll want to wear this winter.

I completed my #OOTD with my go-to Rachel Comey booties and I’m off to grab a cup of joe and run my usual weekend errands with a side of window-shopping.

It’s pretty unbelievable it’s almost 2016! One of my personal goals for 2015 was growing my blog and staying more consistent with it as my main creative outlet. If you’ve kept up with me from the beginning, I originally started Syma Speaks as a print magazine while in 3rd grade. I’ve always had a love for fashion and writing, so being able to share that is very special to me. I hope to share more of what inspires me in 2016, here’s to the new year & new content!

Now let’s talk NYE. Your plans might not be set in stone yet (always stressful) but your outfit totally can be!

I’m usually very into a metallic or sequin moment for New Year’s because those pieces aren’t always the easiest to wear post holiday fun. However, this year I’m feeling something a little different; faux fur.

I have never been a fur person…I attempted rocking a vest a few years back but couldn’t totally commit. Then came the fur collar which I really enjoy for it’s versatility and ease into the trend.

Perhaps it’s the power of Instagram but all I have wanted these first few months of winter is a faux fur moment. This jacket is from a favorite, Aritzia. I love the creamy hue as you know I love me some neutrals.

Underneath this statement jacket, I wanted to keep it simple with this black wrap top layered with a champagne gold metallic tank for a touch of sparkle.

Now what’s my perfect NYE collab? Faux fur X velvet.

I rocked these Velvet X Jeggings by American Eagle Outfitters in my last holiday post and can’t get enough of the texture. If you don’t have a little bit of velvet in your closet, I highly suggest getting yourself a pair of these!

You can never go wrong with #allblackeverything, this monotone look allows my jacket to not compete with the rest of outfit.

I couldn’t exactly say goodbye to sequins for New Year’s so I found a way to work them in with this vintage clutch! It’s a great way to add a bit of shine without going over the top.

I completed this #OOTN with my nude pumps from Mango and I’m ready to ring in the New Year!

Cheers to 2016 and you recreating this outfit! Hope I inspired you a bit this past year, and can’t wait to continue the fun very soon!

Thank you so much for your support!

Crazy to think that Christmas is this week! The weather in NYC lately hasn’t exactly been the “Winter Wonderland” of my dreams but I’m never opposed to warmer weather.

What I am very excited about? Giving my parka a break and wearing one of my most favorite Aritzia wool coats but this time adding a pop of red.

I wasn’t always into the color red or much color at all really since moving to NYC as you can probably tell from my numerous posts raving on neutral color palettes. However, when it comes to the holidays — I think it’s important to switch it up and get a little festive. Now this does not mean go break out your “ugly sweater” but embrace a little color when it comes to #sweaterweather.

This sweater is my new favorite from American Eagle Outfitters. It’s the perfect shade of cherry red that looks amazing on a variety of skin tones and an ideal cropped length.

I decided to continue the holiday fun and work a little velvet into my outfit — my American Eagle Outfitters Velvet – X Jeggings.

When it comes to velvet – I think it’s best to go classic. You can’t go wrong with a black velvet pant. These are a subtle way to wear this seasonal trend and add a new addition to your closet full of black skinnys.

A simple pom-pom beanie also from AEO and my red Kate Spade Saturday bag and I’m ready to celebrate the holidays in style!

Now let’s cue some classic Mariah and get this party started!

Merry Christmas + Happy Holidays!

Holiday Gift Guide 2015
1. Diptyque Candle – Perhaps the most Instagrammed candle but the “Baies” smells just as amazing as it looks on your feed.

2. Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette — I received these eyeshadows from my sister last Christmas and I’m still obsessed. It’s the perfect selection of nudes and subtle metallics for any eye look you want to create, from natural to smokey!

3. Stacking Rings — The layered ring trend is here to stay and it’s a great gift for the girl that loves a little gold in her life. Check out rings from Catbird and if you’re in NYC, I highly recommend checking out the jewelry vendors in Chelsea Market — there are so many inexpensive options that you might be able to score a few for yourself too! The more delicate the better, I love stacking them in champagne and rose golds.

4. Coffee Table Books — For the fashionista, you can’t go wrong with a stylish coffee table book. The quintessential, “Tom Ford” is not only a beautiful read but adds a bold statement to any table in your room.

5. Rebecca Minkoff “Velvet Love” Cross-body — I’m loving the velvet trend this holiday season, and to add a touch of it with this Rebecca Minkoff cross-body is the perfect way to work it into your wardrobe. The emerald hue is so pretty and perfect for a fun night!

6. Tech-Friendly Gloves — Being warm is everything and the fact that every glove these days comes out with a tech-friendly element is amazing! I’ve been very into a touch of faux fur lately, and these gloves add a little bit of fun without going over the top. Another favorite of mine? These grey gloves from American Eagle Outfitters!

7. Succulent — Perhaps you can blame Instagram, but these little green succulents are the perfect little accessory to add some green to your life! I love that they are low maintenance and bring a little of the outdoors in. Whether you get one for their desk or bedroom — succulents are cute gift she will truly appreciate! Don’t want the real thing? Target sells some awesome options.

8. Marble iPhone Case — Grey + white…what more could you want?! I’ve been seeing marble iPhone cases and Macbook cases that are so beautiful and chic. It’s a total way to upgrade her iPhone game.

9. Janessa Leone Hat — If you know me, I’ve been obsessing over Janessa Leone hats for some time now. I finally scored one and now I need them all. Definitely splurge worthy but for the hat lover out there, she will love it for years to come!

10. Nars Lipstick — Give a little glamour. Every fashionista loves a bold red lip. I love Nars lipstick in “Jungle Red”. The color is semi-matte and will be amazing to have just in time to ring in the new year!

I hope these 10 items help you with your last-minute shopping needs, or maybe inspired you to shop for yourself!

‘Tis the season!

Happy Holidays & Happy Shopping!

The camel coat has made quite the statement this season and the one piece I was so excited to add to my wardrobe this fall.

If you saw my last post, “Thankful for Neutrals” — this coat continues my love for all things grey, tan and taupe.

When it comes to outerwear, I think it’s important to have three key coats in your closet: black, grey and tan. You can’t go wrong with this combination — the outfit opportunities are endless!

This camel dream is the Babaton Jacoby Coat from Aritzia. Be sure to check out the rest of their outerwear as well, I’m pretty much obsessed with all of it and don’t even get me started about their blanket scarves….(post coming soon!)

In this #OOTD I wanted to dress up my go-to day-to-day outfit; a grey sweater, black jeggings and my Stan Smith’s. This camel coat was the perfect touch to elevate my outfit.

This look is great for our current weather conditions in NYC, thanks to El Nino, my ankles do not freeze and I can show off my footwear game a bit with a cropped length.

I cut these American Eagle Outfitters jeggings myself to add some frayed detailing to the bottom. I’m going to admit, I did not cut these that great but after a few washes, they evened out ok.🙂

I paired my jeans with this comfy and cozy American Eagle Outfitters mock neck sweater which I highly recommend. It comes in a few colors so you might need all of them, naturally.

_MG_5133Paired with my Ray-Bans, black tote and light grey Adidas Stan Smith’s, I’m ready to hit the streets of NYC in not only comfort but so on trend .

If you’ve been following my blog thus far or know me well – all I love is grey. I don’t know what it is about this neutral but I can’t get enough of it.

It’s also the perfect hue to travel with this Thanksgiving weekend!

When it comes to traveling – it’s all about layering. I used to be an “over-packer” but now since moving to NYC, I’ve gotten much better at it due to my favorite people living in various cities and I can’t lug so much luggage around alone!

It’s all about packing with items I can wear in different ways to maximize my outfits for the weekend.

This look is ideal and perfect for the airport – with the key item; the cocoon cardigan.

I love a good oversized sweater, but it’s important to understand how to wear it so you still keep your shape.

With my favorite go-to American Eagle Outfitters hi-rise jeggings, I tucked in my Aerie turtleneck and added this Forever 21 concho belt to show-off my waist. This allows me to break-up the monotone look and add some 90’s flare.

Now time to talk about this hat – it’s everything. I literally visited Madewell a total of three times before I purchased because I wasn’t quite sure about the hat, but after dreaming about it and saving a selfie I took on Snapchat (#thesearemyconfessions) I knew the hat had to be mine!

_MG_4302The last piece – my favorite Ray-Bans and Rachel Comey booties and I’m ready to hit the weekend in style.

I can’t think of a better look to be thankful for this Thanksgiving – ready to recreate?

November is in full swing and temps are dropping in NYC. When Friday comes around, all I want to do is put on sweatpants. Thank God for the trend of “athleisure” where now it’s socially acceptable to rock your favorite comfy pants outside the house.

However, you must follow some rules when attempting to dress up your sweats so you don’t completely look like you rolled out of bed. Listen up guys, I’m talking to you too.

A staple piece in every person’s wardrobe is a leather jacket. If you can’t break the bank at the moment, have no fear — there are so many types of “vegan” leather jackets sold by your fast-fashion destinations like Zara to give you the look of a classic leather jacket without spending next month’s rent.

Whether you want to dress up a hoodie (a la Kendall Jenner) or simply add some structure to your look – this is a great way to do this. It takes your sweats to next level where you go from borderline pjs to “model off-duty.”

I love a neutral palette – so simply adding a grey tee with my black Aerie sweatpants was an easy decision.

Now for the sneaker, one thing I love about living in NYC is how much of a sneaker culture it is. It’s important to have a variety in your sneaker game – you want the basics; Converse, Adidas and Nikes.

I love a simple white high-top converse. They look very “cool-Euro model” in the summer with a dress and love the way they look with an all black ensemble for a little pop.

At under 60 bucks, you can’t go wrong with this timeless kick.

Throw on your favorite eyewear and you’re ready to hit the streets not only comfortable but completely in style.

“Fall” In Love with the Perfect Seasonal Bootie

You could say my fall uniform consists of two things: black booties and black jeans.

Living in NYC I feel like I have to buy a new pair of black booties every year and it was a never ending search for the perfect pair until I found the “one”.

They say, “you know when you know” and it’s true. The first time I tried on the Sam Edelman “Petty” bootie – my search was over.

It had everything I could want in an everyday boot; black leather, a low heel, sleek look, comfortable and timeless flair.

Paired with my newest destroyed jeans from American Eagle Outfitters — you could say it was a match made in heaven!

Possibilities are endless — and want to know the great thing? This boot comes in a variety of colors so now I need all of them (naturally). Cognac, grey, nude…and suede?! At under $150 – what’s not to love?

P.S. Happy #ShoesdayTuesday🙂

As summer in the city came to an end and store window displays switched their focus to fall, all I had (heart) eyes for was a tan moto jacket.

It’s all I could think about it! The only thing I needed to start my fall wardrobe right was a tan moto jacket and I was determined to find the perfect one!

On a chill Sunday in the city, I was browsing at one of my favorite stores, Aritzia (a usual weekend activity) and there it was; a tan moto jacket with my name on it!

I quickly grabbed it and tried it on. After taking a few (maybe 10) selfies in the mirror, I knew I had to have it!

I could see it worn in endless ways but the look I was most excited to try it with was an ‘all black everything’ moment. For this look, I paired it with my Aerie turtleneck and my American Eagle Outfitters black hi-rise jeggings.

To add a bit of 70’s flare that I can’t get enough of — I added this fun fringe clutch I picked up at Forever 21. I love that it’s an easy way to add a bit of the era to my look without overdoing it.

I kept accessories classic with my favorite Ray-Bans and my newest black booties from Sam Edelman. I’ve professed my love for the Sam Edelman bootie before and these continue my admiration. They’re simple, comfortable and go with everything — it’s my go-to bootie of the season and I highly recommend them!

I love the moto jacket for an easy way to edge up your look. It’s a quick way to add instant cool and give you that “model-off-duty” look everyone needs in their life.  The tan is a nice alternative to your black. Think of it as your new neutral. Whether you wear it with a t-shirt and jeans, drape it over your shoulders with a little slip dress —  you can’t go wrong with this wardrobe staple.

No matter how you wear it — this is definitely the moto of the moment.

This is the skirt that is clogging your Instagram feed and the skirt you need to update your fall wardrobe!

The button-front skirt is everywhere – from denim to suede it’s the perfect way to work in this 70’s flashback into our wardrobes.

I am a denim kind of girl. Jeans, jackets, high-waisted, chambray shirts — it’s a way of life really. However this skirt is not the one you rocked in the early 2000’s when you paired it with your favorite fleece sweatshirt and Uggs — don’t worry!

There’s a reason you keep seeing it — it’s one very versatile piece!

I decided to style this skirt from American Eagle Outfitters with one of my favorite tops I purchased a few months back from Zara.

I’ve really been loving the off-the-shoulder trend since last Spring and I’m excited to see it transition into fall.

I tucked in my blouse from Zara and added this cool western-inspired concho belt (also from AE :)) + my fun sunnies to channel my inner 70’s ‘It Girl’.

You can definitely have fun this season with the 70’s trend — whether it’s a fun button-front skirt, suede jacket or a bit of fringe (all coming soon to the blog!) take a bit of the era and mix it in with you wardrobe and you’ll be right on trend!

There’s something about getting your hair blown out that makes you feel so incredible. I’m always amazed by how the stylist can get my hair so smooth with simply a round-brush and a blow-dryer. I have naturally wavy hair so it’s never as sleek and smooth when I’ve attempted to do it myself but when when I’ve gotten my hair done at Dream Dry I’m literally blown away. Dream Dry is co-owned by celebrity stylist and fashion icon Rachel Zoe — which means you might catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror saying, “I die” when you leave the salon.

So you got the blow-out but how do you make this insanely beautiful hair last? Read the following tips:

ESSENTIAL TOOL : THE SHOWER CAP — Yes you will go from fab to drab when you put on this shower cap but this will be your best friend over the following days while you’re saving your precious blow out shower to shower!

Put your hair loosely into a top knot and secure with a loose hair tie wrapping around just once – quickly slip the shower cap on and hop into the shower keeping your hair dry.

After your shower, quickly take the shower cap off and shake your head to have your Pantene Pro-V moment — you just saved your blow-out!

NIGHT 1 — When you’re getting ready for bed, pull all of your hair up and lay down with your hair spread out on the pillow. This will allow your roots to stay in an upward direction throughout the night creating volume you might have lost otherwise.

DAY 2 – Light Hair Spray — Your roots might not be as volumized as when you left the salon but that can be fixed! I love a light hairspray like Air Control from Aveda – not only does it smell amazing but it gives you just the right amount of hold you need to feel refreshed.

DAY 3 — Dry Shampoo — Your roots might start to look and feel greasy so it’s time to whip out the dry shampoo. I love one by Oribe to freshen up your locks and give your hair life again.

DAY 4 — This can be a stretch but you can do it! A mix of dry shampoo with a bit more hair spray at the roots and a few head flips can keep you in the game. Also try switching your part. A hair stylist told me that your hair can get so used to being one way that it gets weighed down. If you’re comfortable with it, simply switching your part gives volume to your hair you didn’t even know you had and a fun way to mix up your look!

With these helpful tips you’re definitely able to keep your fabulous blow-out going strong for a few extra days and once the luster has gone, it’s just time to hit up Dream Dry again and continue to make every day glamorous.

Walking out of the salon like:

Rooftops are probably one of my favorite things about NYC. There’s something about being sky high among the tall buildings and feeling like you’re on top of the world. You can feel this way at The Skylark — a hidden gem in midtown Manhattan.

When you’re looking for a great spot to hang with your friends after work, The Skylark is the perfect Monday-Friday lounge. Besides the Instagramworthy views, the menu offers some delicious items that are for sure to leave your work worries behind.

I had the pleasure of checking out this NYC hotspot on a Friday evening. For these early Fall nights, I love a great shirt dress. This one is a neutral number from Forever 21. That’s right — this dress was a steal and the perfect day to night silhouette.

I love shades of white and cream that allows your summer tan to pop for a perfect contrast. To add a bit of color, I added these fun turquoise earrings from H&M – another steal for under $13.00!

I added my Scotch & Soda beaded clutch I scored at a sample sale last summer and my go-to All Saints pumps and I was ready to hit the city in style. To make this dress transition into the cooler weather we’ve been feeling lately, I love a great structured blazer on top or your favorite leather bomber jacket to edge it up.

Be sure to check out the Skylark to enjoy amazing views of the city that never sleeps. :)

It’s technically the first day of Fall but it’s a bit hard for me to fully transition into sweater weather in NYC when it’s still a high of 80 degrees! #endlesssummer

The solution? My dark floral jumpsuit. In my mind — this is the perfect transitional piece. It’s long sleeves and pants in one! I was searching for a jumpsuit with a tie/cut-out/floral combination and there it was one night as I was browsing online. It was everything I could want in a jumpsuit! (Probably my favorite thing to say to myself when shopping “it’s everything I could want in a _____ ” then I know it’s a must-have – ha!)

This is the 2nd jumpsuit I’ve scored at Forever 21 — I know — you’re just as shocked as I am! A full outfit for under 25 bucks?! Anything is possible people.

To take this into evening and cooler temps — simply drape your favorite leather moto over your shoulders and you’re ready to take your #OOTN in style. IMG_0066_MG_3818  _MG_3766_MG_3897

A few months back I went on a weekend getaway to surprise my sister Amber for her birthday! We had the best time celebrating and hanging poolside at the Fontainebleu Hotel with her best girlfriends.

Every time I visit Miami, I wonder…can I live here?! A 2 hour flight from NYC and just like that you’re in paradise!

For this look, I kept it strictly Diddy style — all white everything.

There’s nothing like a white V-neck and jeans. I’m a huge fan of this simple look for summer days into night. To break it up a bit – I tied a destroyed denim jacket around my waist to add some texture. A pair of nude heels is a great way to elevate your look into evening and add some flare.

The sunnies of the season? Reflective shades. You can have so much fun with your selfie game with a pair of mirrored sunglasses. This unisex trend has been spotted everywhere from the signature Dior’s you see all over your Instagram feed to a cheap thrill at Forever 21 which has now become my favorite spot to stock up on trendy shades. (It’s a problem.)

This pair is by Aerie — I love the clear white frames with neon green lenses. They just so happened to match my palm tree backdrop perfectly.  (I promise I didn’t plan it!)

It’s super important to invest in a great pair of white skinny jeans. This pair is from American Eagle Outfitters and is part of the new Denim X collection. The jeans have a next level of stretch that won’t bag out. They truly hold their shape and were a staple my entire trip!

Throw on a straw hat and a corally-orange red lip with some tossled beach waves and I was ready to take on Miami in style.

Cue Will Smith.

Thank you to my dear friend & sister, Soumya for taking these photos! xoxo

WEDDING SEASON: Boho Bridal Beauty

Who doesn’t love wedding photos?! If you’re like me, you might start looking at a friend’s wedding album then somehow come across another wedding and get lost in a whole new love story of up-dos, decor and dresses. This happened to me once I came across my fellow Fashionista’s gorgeous wedding on my Instagram feed. Erica and I used to work together when I was a young summer intern at Victoria’s Secret — I always admired her effortless style and that showed through as she tied the knot just a few months ago. While most brides to be may opt for a classic up-do — Erica’s wedding look is the perfect inspiration for the non-traditional bride who wants to stand out for more reasons than her white dress.

When deciding her look, Erica wanted to channel, “the modern-day gypsy who loves natural glamourous hair and doesn’t try too hard.” Hair stylist, Dominick Pucciarello created gorgeous soft, cascading loose waves for the ceremony.

“My inspiration for my hair look was very boho inspired. I love that natural, effortless vibe with a touch of glam. My dress was the statement piece and my hair was the accessory so I didn’t want anything too overpowering. I just needed a nice accent.”

For the reception, Erica added a touch of glam with a beautiful head-piece. I love the idea of mixing it up when you’re ready to party! Being Pakistani, I especially adore this look. For the past couple of years, the trend at many Pakistani wedding I’ve attended has been incorporating a headpiece into your look. Whether you’re the bride or a guest it’s a great way to be festive and fashionable. It’s so awesome to see part of Pakistani/Indian culture being translated into American style. For a while it was very rare to find a piece of jewelry like this in the US but now they are so accessible. Glad I don’t have to make them out of my mom’s necklaces anymore. (True story). Erica’s wedding look is one of my favorites I have ever seen — I hope you find them just as inspiring! Be sure to follower her on Instagram for even more style inspo!

It’s no secret one of the hottest trends of the season is baring your shoulders. It’s just a subtle amount of skin to show without being too over the top. I’ve fully embraced this trend this season paired with a new found love for jumpsuits. Being a bit taller (5’6)  I never thought I could rock the jumpsuit – thinking maybe my torso was too long and the proportions would be all wrong. Until one day I spotted this striped silhouette on a hanger in Forever 21. I was stunned by the stripes alone, I bought it for under 25 dollars without any hesitation. #steal I went home and tried it on and was so impressed by the fit and flare. I love the black & white pattern. This color combination is timeless and makes me feel sophisticated and classic. Adding a simple ponytail and a bold statement earring is all you need to dress this look up and let your shoulders really stand out! Are you ready to #freetheshoulder and get your jumpsuit on? I vote, yes.

Can you believe July is already here?! I can’t believe the 4th is this weekend! It’s one of my favorite holidays. There’s nothing like being with your favorite people, grilling out and watching the beautiful fireworks on a summer night!

On the 4th — I always go casual. What’s more American than wearing denim? For my look I decided to wear a pair of white destroyed boyfriend jeans with an easy striped crop tee from American Eagle Outfitters. Adding a pop of red with my Kate Spade Saturday crossbody gives a touch of Patriotic love without being too red, white and blue.

I love a good statement hat. This fun style I scored at H&M — this style has been super popular this season and being under 20 dollars, there’s no reason not to embrace the trend!

For the evening when you’re ready to watch the fireworks with your favorite people, an easy denim jacket around your waist is not only fashionable but functional to keep you warm once the sky lights up.

My favorite sneaker of the moment are these Stan Smith’s — the light grey is a nice alternative to the white and neutral enough to go with most pieces in your wardrobe.

I’m sure you already have similar pieces in your wardrobe — what will you wear to celebrate?!

Living in NYC is amazing but at times all you want is to get out of the city. The destination that’s trending these days? The “un-Hamptons” otherwise known as Montauk.

This was my first time venturing to a New York beach and I loved every minute of it. Its incredible that just under a three hour drive you can be transported to a whole different world. New York City is a distant memory in your rear view mirror.

Montauk is at the very end of Long Island and is surrounded by breathtaking views of endless water. Known for it’s laid-back surf attitude, Montauk was filled with cute boutiques, great restaurants and lounges.

My personal favorite? The Surf Lodge. Everything in that hotel was Instagram worthy – I couldn’t stop taking pictures of the decor. Not to mention, it was the site of my very first Lobster Roll and it did not disappoint.

I highly recommend Montauk for an easy getaway if you’re looking to venture out of the city and want some easy-breezy beach vibes.

Hope you enjoy my photos as much as I enjoyed being there!

This summer, I am all about the LWD — otherwise known as the Little White Dress.

I dreamed about this silhouette from Aritzia (as I do most things) when I spotted it on the racks when it was still freezing in NYC. I decided to purchase and stay optimistic thinking one day summer may indeed come and I can rock this dress with open toe shoes and bare legs.

Finally – summer arrived and it’s insanely hot in NYC. The instant fix? This easy breezy dress that I can take from day to night.

I wanted to show you fellow Fashionistas the versatility of this dress by simple switching up your accessory game.

For a casual day look – I love this paired with a flat cognac sandal, turquoise jewelry and my new favorite tassel earrings. For the summer heat, I love the hairstyle that has been trending over your Instagram feed: the half bun.

This look is perfect for the office, brunch out with the girls, or a fun day date.

For the evening it’s all about your shoes. To add some edge, I paired this dress with my statement heels from Zara. The red gives that extra pop you need that elevates the look into night.

I literally “let my hair down” and embraced my natural waves to switch up my look. It’s important to embrace your natural texture in this season because no matter how much you may try to fight it — the humidity will win.

If you want to add more shape, this dress comes with an adorable rope belt you can tie for a more fitted look. However, I love this dress loose. It has so much movement, and the hem comes up just a bit on the sides to show-off a bit of leg which never hurt anyone.

Are you ready to rock this look day to night? (Cue Kid Cudi.)

It’s no secret – ever since I moved to New York I have loved getting facials at Mario Badescu.

Not only is it an affordable facial, but the estheticians are so kind and really take the time to evaluate your skin and understand what type of regimen is best for your skin type. I highly suggest their spa if you’re in the city!

I have always had sensitive skin so once a product works for me – I stay loyal. When it comes to MB I’ve stayed true to their Seaweed Cleansing Lotion. It’s a great toner that balances the oiliness of my skin and give that extra clean finish after cleansing. There isn’t alcohol in the toner so it never makes your skin feel tight or irritated.

If my skin is every feeling a bit on the the dry side, I love the Herbal Hydrating Serum. It gives an extra boost of hydration that still feels light.

My latest obsession? The Vitamin C Serum. Not only does it smell amazing — but it is a great addition to my skincare regimen to boost brightness.

I am super excited that MB has released a new scrub – the Botanical Exfoliating Scrub. I’m always looking for a good exfoliator to mix into my routine and this one is gentle enough that it won’t irritate or cause break-outs. (Win-win!)

Thanks Mario Badescu for sending me the below – so excited to rotate these products into my beauty regimen!

In honor of Pharrell winning the CFDA’s Fashion Icon of the Year – thought I would share one of my favorite Pharrell songs. As you can see, he was still stylin’ and looks exactly the same 12 years later! (Read his feature on Into the Gloss here, I love it.) Congrats Pharrell! Let’s dance.

The crop top has become a summer staple in my wardrobe. Surprisingly versatile, you can dress it up or down.

I love this style from American Eagle Outfitters that has a low ballerina back. The black and white stripes make it classic and easy to pair with anything from denim to a maxi skirt.

For this look, I wore my hi-waisted “Mom jeans”, also from AEO. I love when people ask if they are a vintage pair of denim that I’ve had in my closet for ages. Best compliment ever.

A hi-waisted jean is a key pairing with any crop top. Be sure to check out the amazing hi-rise selection AEO has to offer. From jeggings, to skinny jeans to flares —you’ll be sure to find a style that is super flattering on you.

Add a pair of statement heels and you’re ready for a fun night out!

Are you ready to crop it like it’s hot?

Boyfriend jeans – not the easiest type of denim to wear even though they claim to be!

Since I’m used to wearing a tight skinnier fit denim, I tend to feel a little frumpy when I wear a looser style. It’s important to find a pair of boyfriend jeans that still give you a shape. American Eagle Outfitters latest revamp of the boyfriend jean is called the “Tomgirl” — which has a skinnier fit. I also suggest playing with sizing. In a boyfriend jean I usually size down so they are not too baggy and overtime they will give you the right amount of slouch you want.

To feel more put together it’s all about adding the unexpected – a fun pair of heels! I scored these beauties at Zara a few summers back and love the bright bold turquoise. Turquoise is such a flattering shade on so many skin tones and the perfect pop of brightness to ease our way into summer.

I love a white crop top – especially this one from Aritzia. It fits a little oversized, but layered with a favorite lacy bralette from Aerie adds a just a bit of edge. Denim on denim has always been one of my favorite combinations. To continue with the “boyfriend” look – I actually borrowed from the boys and wore a men’s denim jacket from American Eagle Outfitters as well. Draped over my shoulders, I’m ready to hit the city for a fun summer night. Perhaps a rooftop?

Where will you wear your boyfriend jeans?

If you’re like me, you probably haven’t worn a flare jean in a few years – but this spring – the flare is back in full force and it’s time to embrace it!

I am all about a high-rise. Whether it’s a skinny jean, jegging or dare I say “mom jean” — I am obsessed.

In a flare, a high rise is especially important to give this jean a modern feel and not look like you just pulled out your favorite jeans from the 7th grade when low was the way to go.

I know some people are scared of a high-rise, but the style is actually super flattering on most shapes. It won’t give you the dreaded muffin-top and definitely elongates the legs. (Win-win!)

For this look, I paired my American Eagle Outfitters Hi-Rise Artist Flares with this great button-down from Forever 21. I love the light wash of these jeans. When I put them on I immediately channel my inner Rachel Zoe and want to say, “ba-na-nas.”

This woven top was a hidden gem I found on a recent trip to Forever. I love the soft linen and stripes. It’s the perfect staple as we head into spring/summer. I see me pairing it with so many different bottoms but I love the look of a button-down with a high rise pant.

In these flares, I made sure to get them in a longer length so I could wear them with heels. (Pro tip!)

For the past year I have been loving delicate gold jewelry. Whether its layering a few different necklaces and rings (post coming soon), I love the idea of simple dainty jewels for everyday. This gold necklace I randomly came across at a mall staple, Windsor! Who knew, right? The ring I recently picked up in a pop-up shop in Chelsea Market here in NYC by Alexandra Beth Designs.

Adding my favorite Ray-Ban aviators and pop of color with my Kate Spade Saturday (RIP) crossbody I felt easy and breezy walking around the city.

Are you ready to give your next outift some flare?

I have been following model Neelam Gill via Instagram for a bit now and it’s so exciting to see her story on one of my favorite sites, IntoTheGloss today!

Being Pakistani-American, it is super inspiring to see a model on the rise with a similar cultural background. Growing up being in awe of the fashion industry, it’s awesome to know fellow brown girls around the world have someone to represent them.

“I hope that agencies will realize there is a place for Indian girls in the modeling industry. I’ve been working for over a year now, so maybe we need to give it some time, but I hope that for me and other Indian models, we continued booking jobs and people continue believing in us.” – Neelam Gill

It’s just the beginning. Read her full story, here.

Athleisure: Not Just Your Weekend Wear

Ladies– it is now socially acceptable to wear leggings and sweatpants outside of the house and gym.

Yes you read that correctly.

“Athleisure” is not just a trend that has brought workout wear to the streets, it’s a lifestyle.

Though I am not an avid gym go-er, I do consider myself  an avid Beyoncé dance class fanatic where I can wear  a sporty look. This may derive from my second-grade obsession for the “windbreaker suit” while working the halls of Indian Meadows elementary school – but I digress.

In today’s time – it’s all about staying polished. Leggings can be a substitute for pants if you make them appropriate.

It’s important to cover the obvious “assets.”. Take a note from  the 90’s and wrap your favorite gray sweatshirt around your waist if your top doesn’t make the mark.

For this look, I added structure with my American Eagle Outfitters quilted bomber jacket. A military green is a great addition to your wardrobe since it acts as a neutral and can be very versatile as we gear into spring. Layering with my current favorite cropped sweater from Aerie adds the perfect mix of texture.

These leggings that I call my “scuba pants” are awesome because they don’t lose their shape. Many brands are starting to sell this fabric in cool new ways from track jackets to tops to even dresses so you can incorporate this trend into your wardrobe whatever your style.

Purchasing these Nike Free sneakers changed my life. I didn’t know walking around the city could be so comfortable. The shoes feel like you’re walking on a cloud – not to mention, on my walk to work in the morning I usually spot about 5 other men and women rocking these kicks and we all have an understanding of how comfortable we feel.

Who knew a simple black knit sneaker could be so amazing? (I need more!)

I finished my look with this baseball cap from Aritzia. I love the simple black design and that I can throw it on when I want to feel a little more mysterious.

How will you athleisure?

THE SWEATER DRESS: Your Most Unexpected Spring Transitional Piece

I honestly haven’t worn a sweater dress since 2007, which was my senior year of high school and probably with a combination of Ugg Boots. (Whatever, you did it too!)

Now when I think “sweater dress,” I picture “soccer mom going out with her girlfriends on the weekend and feeling hot” – this is not my ideal look.

However while browsing one of my favorite sites one day, aritzia.com – I fell in love with their take on the silhouette.

There it was, black, sleek and complete with an edgy hem. I had to have it! I didn’t know a sweater dress could make me say, “damn!” but it did.

I decided to make this look super easy and casual with my over the knee boots — and for some extra texture and warmth, I added my knee-high American Apparel socks. I like that these socks elongate the boots and allow you to show some skin without being over the top. You still get a touch of spring but still keep your legs from freezing as we transiton out of the cooler months. (Thank God!)

I can easily add a heeled bootie for a night out or give my feet a rest and wear these over the knees out on the town. What I love about an over the knee boot is that it gives the illusion of being dressed up but they’re flats so I can literally run to grab a cab or dance all night with ease.

These mirrored sunnies I scored at Urban Outfitters  add that cool girl flare I long for (and not to mention super Instagram worthy). I am all about a mirrored moment right now.

This sweater dress is not only warm, but comfortable and chic – which you might consider an oxymoron, but I speak the truth! I would highly suggest scoring one if you don’t already have it in your closet.

Are you ready to join me in my new found love for sweater dresses? You won’t regret it, I promise.

Just because winter is dull and dreary doesn’t mean your skin has to be! It is very important you invest time in your skin care especially in these colder months when our skin is struggling the most.

1. Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub Unlike what TLC told us, this is one scrub you do want. This exfoliator is for the days you feel like your skin is dull and dreary similar to the weather outside when you just long for brighter more radiant skin. I love this scrub because it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. Believe me, I am someone that gets a weird allergic reaction to most scented cosmetics but this fresh blueberry scent doesn’t bother me – it feels so good getting all the dead skin off but definitely don’t use more than once a week!

2. Mario Badescu Healing & Soothing Mask This mask saves lives. Not exactly but any time I feel like my skin is getting dry or a potential allergic reaction to something I slather this on my face and let it sit 20 minutes. After I rinse off, my skin has never felt smoother. Everyone needs this mask – and at only $20.00, you should get one for your boyfriend, mom, sister and brother too!

3. Cerave Moisturizing Lotion – A drugstore favorite. I’ve talked about this moisturizer before but it had to be done again. I got recommended this by my dermatologist and haven’t looked back since. It gives just the right amount of moisture to my skin without feeling greasy. It also is unscented and perfect for sensitive skin types like me. It also comes in a huge bottle which might not be the most travel-friendly but you won’t run out for months which is great!

4. Bite Whipped Cherry Lip Scrub If you read my previous post on the Bite Beauty Lip Lab you know I am a strong advocate for lip scrubs. In these winter months our lips tend to feel so dry it’s hard to wear our favorite lip colors. However, investing in a lip scrub like this helps remove all the dead skin just like a scrub would do for your face to allow a perfect canvas for your favorite new lipstick.

5. Aquaphor Another drug store miracle. This balm is the perfect follow-up post lip scrub. It is super moisturizing for your lips in need and also can be great for any cuts or cracked skin. It comes in multiple sizes. I suggest the large bottle for home and the smaller size to throw in your bag when you’re on the go.

6. L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream Cracked skin is not cute, not to mention painful! With the constant washing of our hands in these cooler months our hands really suffer. It’s super important to invest in a hand cream to keep your hands as soft as possible. The smell of this cream isn’t overbearing and works really well to sooth skin when it needs it most.

7. Lush Sympathy for the SkinThis lotion is bananas. No really, it’s made from organic mashed bananas, vanilla extract, lemon oil and sandalwood. If that doesn’t sound like a dream, I don’t know what is. I love lush products and this lotion does a great job at moisturizing my skin without leaving a filmy residue.

I swear by these products for an (almost) flawless complexion. Pretty soon you’ll be feeling like B and saying, “I woke up like this!”

Bae Mine

Valentine’s Day is approaching and whether you’re planning a day with your bae or night out with your best girlfriends it’s always fun to dress up!

Color for me, especially moving to New York, has not always been easy. My wardrobe, as you’ve seen, consists of 50+ shades of grey, black and white. However, my strategy to mix in color is all about the accessories.

Over the holidays I went to Chicago to visit my sister. Before we even hit the after Christmas sales I already had visions of the perfect red pump dancing in my head.  I had a Carrie Bradshaw moment; in a sea of chaos otherwise known as “7 am on the Saks designer shoe floor”, I found them. The perfect red Jimmy Choo pumps in my size!

Cue up the heart-eye emojis because it was love at first sight.

What better opportunity to wear my new red pumps then V-Day? To turn up the volume on this look, I added a cherry red lip stain which is the best type of red lip because it won’t come off for hours, so there’s no need to reapply!

I always feel my best when I’m in denim. High-rise jeggings like these Denim X from AEO are my new favorite jeans. I love the slash at the knee – they are just destroyed enough to edge up my look but dressy enough to wear at night.

I love a good graphic tee especially when it immortalizes the words to one of my all time favorite jams, Jay Z’s “Public Service Announcement”. When I found it at Aritzia, I had to have it.

Throwing on a blazer adds structure to my look and pulls it together to make it appropriate for evening. I love this tuxedo blazer, also from Aritzia — it’s a staple in my closet. I can always add this blazer on to pull any outfit together in no time.

Have fun this Valentine’s Day and do something different. Ditch the dress and wear your favorite jeans, chances are you’ll feel more confident and look effortlessly chic.

My wish to you this Valentine’s? Hope you find your Jay Z…
