BEAUTY: Drugstore Finds for the Girl on the Go

photo (1)

Living in NYC has really shown me a fast-paced lifestyle. There isn’t always time to run to your favorite department store or beauty boutique to get what you need. I’ve learned over the years that your beauty essentials do not have to break the bank! Just like you might mix high and low end pieces in your closet — the same can translate to your make-up bag!

I love a good drugstore find especially when it’s unexpected. Duane Reade’s are literally on every block in NYC so it’s hard not to come across one while being out and about. I’ve compiled my favorite drugstore finds I can’t live without that you can easily find on your next errand!

1. Neutrogena Make-Up Remover Cleansing Towelettes

This is a classic. Not only can one wipe take off the smokiest of eyes but it is gentle enough on sensitive skin. I like using these before using a cleanser to make sure I get a really good clean. It’s extremely important to have make-up free skin before you head to bed. Even on your most lazy nights, keep these by your bedside for easy make-up removing. At under 10 bucks, there’s no excuse you can’t wake up like Queen B — flawless.

2. CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion

I was recommended this moisturizer by my dermatologist and never looked back! I have extremely sensitive skin and this works wonders to keep my skin feeling super hydrated. It also comes in a pretty large bottle for under 15 dollars which means you won’t have to restock for months! I’ve tried countless luxury brands of moisturizer and I always come back to this — you won’t be disappointed!

3. Revlon Colorburst Balm

I was always one to use the Clinique Chubby Stick but came across this one day at my local CVS and thought why not give it a try! The Revlon Colorburst Balms come in so many colors and finishes — lacquer, matte and stain — there’s a perfect lip for everyone. The packaging is super cute and easy to apply and for under 10 dollars you can’t really go wrong. The pigment is pretty remarkable for a drugstore find and lasts for hours. If you’re not a lipstick person I think this is a great alternative because they wear like a lip balm and aren’t too drying. I like mixing mine with a bit of Aquaphor (another drugstore must-have!) for even more moisture and it tones down the color. At such a great price you won’t feel guilty when you buy more than one and you can have fun testing out new colors that you might be worried to splurge on otherwise!

4. L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner

For an evening look, I love a good smudgy eyeliner to play up my eyes. This eyeliner by L’Oreal is a steal! The color is really bold and lasts all day. It’s easy to smudge with a Q-tip and even comes with a sharpener which is a definite win-win. I’ve been using Givenchy Magic Kajal Eye Liner Pencil from Sephora which I still love but this L’Oreal one is a fraction of the cost.

5. L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara

I used to use this in college then tried the Dior Show‘s and Lancôme Hypnôse mascaras of the world which I still adore but recently re-discovered this drugstore gem! The L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara gives a great full lash effect perfect for everyday. It doesn’t clump and two coats is all you need. At under $6, you have no excuse not to try it!

CONCERT LOOK: On The Run Tour

Beyonce

Dreams do come true. My sister got us tickets to the ‘On The Run Tour’ and I had the time of my life! I’ve seen JAY Z now four times and Beyoncé just once last summer but nothing is like seeing J+B together! For those of you who don’t know (or can’t already tell) — I’m kind of obsessed with all things Beyoncé, recently even started taking Beyoncé dance classes (I love NY/future post?). My icebreaker usually when I meet people is, “I have the same birthday as Beyoncé.” (September 4th, comin’ up Bey!)

One might ask though — what do you wear to a Beyoncé concert? Well the thing to remember is — you are actually not on stage. At the show it’s of course exciting to dress up and maybe throw on some sequins but remember you’re going to be standing/dancing for a few hours — leave the heels at home ladies and embrace the “sneakers with everything” trend! I can’t tell you how many bodycon dresses I saw in the audience. Believe me, I love a good bodycon moment  but at a concert I think it’s best to be comfortable!

I naturally got me and my sister matching outfits — I couldn’t resist these “I Woke Up Like This” tanks I spotted in a NYC boutique. Not only is that one of the most memorable lines from the album but on one of my favorite tracks, “Flawless” (Have you heard the remix yet?! http://www.beyonce.com/flawless/). I wore it with my favorite AE skinny jeans, Rebecca Minkoff crossbody (hands-free dance party) a chambray shirt tied around my waist and my Nike Free sneakers and I was ready to dance all night and stay warm when it got cooler after the show.

Highlights of the night? I can’t pick just one — I practically lost my mind when JAY Z performed “Clique” and Beyoncé came in killing it with a remix of “Diva”. I also almost died when they sang “Forever Young” together (insert heart eyes emoji). It was truly magical. Beyoncé also dancing to “Partition” was ridiculous. Basically, the music video and more came to life. If you have a chance to see this show I highly recommend it — or definitely tune into the HBO documentary!

This is my effortless “I Woke Up Like This” Beyoncé concert look — what’s yours?

REVIEW: The Latest in Liners

Image

I’m not a total fan of the term “beauty junkie” but pretty sure I am one. I am also someone who likes to become best friend’s with make-up artists at department stores and there’s no Sephora I can’t spend at least an hour in…

One day I received an e-mail from my favorite beauty site, Into The Gloss asking if I’d want to be a part of their latest VIP program to try out new products! I was so honored they reached out and behold a few days later, I receive the latest liner from Benefit Cosmetics “They’re Real! Push-Up Liner.” For me, liner is incredibly important. My eyes are something I like to play up — especially at night!

I am usually one to use an angled brush along with a pencil/gel liner combination which can get pretty complicated. However — this innovative product has it all in one! Put the angled brushes aside ladies! This new liner has an angled tip and retractable gel liner that comes out easily for the perfect smudge-proof line.

It was a little tricky to use at first but after a few tries I got the hang of it. That line wasn’t going anywhere! I definitely suggest this product if you’re one to love a bold liner. You can really switch up the angle for your ideal shape which I love.

You won’t be disappointed!

MET YOUR MATCH

MetYourMatch1

Everyone has that pair of jeans that they can’t live without — and for me, that pair is my American Eagle Outfitters Hi-Rise Jegging in a perfectly faded charcoal grey. Sure, it might be your not so typical blue jean but I literally live in this neutral and can’t seem to take them off!

On a beautiful Saturday in the city, I was shopping around the Meatpacking District and popped into All Saints where I usually walk around in awe of their sea of grey selection…and there they were — the perfect pump in a beautifully distressed leather in faded charcoal grey. I had to have them! I tried them on with my grey jeans and had that “aha-moment”, my jeans had met their match!

Paired with my favorite white AE tee (which I could also analyze for hours…future post?), this is an incredibly easy outfit to take day to night. My favorite chambray shirt tied around my waist nods to the 90’s grunge trend we’ve been seeing and adds function for when it gets cooler at night.

For some color, I scored this Scotch & Soda clutch with awesome beaded detail that adds some texture to my look. The finishing touch? My latest sunglasses obsession — these mod-inspired cat-eye shades by Kate Spade Saturday. I love that instant edge they add to any outfit, and I dig the all-black frames and lenses.

What’s your perfect match?

MET GALA 2014

The Met Gala — an event that comes every Spring as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute hosted by fashion icon, Anna Wintour. This year’s theme was “Charles James: Beyond Fashion.” I’m sure like most of you Fashionistas, I was swooning over my Instagram feed wondering, “How does one pick a #MetGala best dressed?”

Well this is my site and I couldn’t pick just one! Here are my favorite looks and moments from the night…what were yours?

From the top:

Beyonce & Jay Z in Givenchy. Bey truly looked like a Queen rocking a head piece and gown beaded to perfection. Can you say #werk? Hov went with a classic white and black ensemble keeping B the star…how sweet.

Rosie Huntington-Whitely killed it in Balmain. Simple sleek hair parted down the middle was the perfect low-key look to compliment the edgy dress.

Kim Kardashian in custom Lanvin was a vision in blue. Old Hollywood waves added the perfect touch and we can all agree was a definite upgrade from last year’s floral wonder!

Victoria Beckham in Victoria Beckham, naturally. The woman can do no wrong.

Rihanna cropped it like it’s hot in Stella McCartney! We knew BadGalRiRi would be the one to rock our favorite trend and she nailed it. The back of the dress was equally as appealing.

Leighton Meester was a golden boho beauty in Emilio Pucci — the beading was insane!

Blake Lively — Where have you been all my life? We’ve missed this beauty on the red carpet! I can’t stop staring…beyond gorgeous in Gucci. Her dramatic side part and soft waves added that amazing Hollywood glamour and showstopper quality Blake is known for. #swoon

Lily Aldridge was smoking in liquid metal Michael Kors. Can I rent the runway that dress? But seriously…

Joan Smalls in custom Vera Wang — what can I say, my three favorite things: supermodels, taupe dresses and a side braid. Not many people could pull off that statement of a lip but the woman can do no wrong. It also helps that Beyonce’s make-up artist, Sir John was behind this masterpiece and rumor has it will be on The Coveteur soon!

Kendall Jenner in Topshop. She shocked us all hitting the runways this past season and continues to wow me with her red carpet looks! Excited for what’s to come of this supermodel on the rise!

Stella McCartney knows how to party! The ultimate girl group featuring supermodel/Instagram star Cara Delevingne, Rihanna, Kate Bosworth and Reese Witherspoon. Could you think of a cooler group of girls to hang out with??

Love from the Met steps..xoxo

The Magic of Mean Girls

I remember being a freshman in high school feeling so excited to see Mean Girls opening night with my friends at Rave.

Rave was the movie theater in the outdoor shopping mall in my hometown. It was the place to be seen on the weekends — especially as a freshman where all there was to do was shop, eat pizza and chill with your friends as your parents dropped you off. Now Rave isn’t even called Rave and my favorite pizza place, Puccini’s is a thing of the past (tears)!  I can’t believe it’s been 10 years…

Just think — Amanda Seyfried was a small town girl from Allentown, PA, Rachel McAdams was a blonde pre-Notebook, Lindsay Lohan wasn’t BFF’s with Oprah and “fetch” wasn’t even a term for “cool”. Mean Girls really changed it all and will still be that movie I can’t turn off when it’s on and the quotes still remain hilarious as ever.

Let’s reminisce on the magic of Mean Girls with non-other than rapper, mathelite and “I only date women of color” extraordinaire — Kevin G.

Happy Anniversary Mean Girls!

Where were you when you first saw Mean Girls and what was your favorite scene? Leave your comments below — it would be fetch! :)

Bucket List: Get Critiqued by Joan Rivers…Check!

Made my fashion TV debut with blogger NYCPretty and American Eagle Outfitters rocking the latest 90’s trend to come back — overalls!

I had no idea until that morning that Joan Rivers was going to be a guest on WLNY’s “The Couch” or that she would be there for our segment! It was pretty crazy — luckily Joan Rivers gave me her “Fashion Police” seal of approval…thanks Joan!
