OUTFIT INSPIRATION: The 4th

The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays! Not only is it in the midst of summer, but around NYC it’s time for rooftop parties, BBQ’s and seeing the fireworks over the East River.

There’s nothing I love more in my wardrobe than a tee shirt and jeans. It’s classic American style that is timeless.

Take a look at my above outfit inspiration and have some fun this 4th of July! Whether you choose trendy overalls, a pair of your favorite cut-off shorts or a simple stripe top – you’ll be sure to look Patriotic and effortlessly stylish.

Happy 4th Fashionistas!

REVIEW: The Latest in Liners

Image

I’m not a total fan of the term “beauty junkie” but pretty sure I am one. I am also someone who likes to become best friend’s with make-up artists at department stores and there’s no Sephora I can’t spend at least an hour in…

One day I received an e-mail from my favorite beauty site, Into The Gloss asking if I’d want to be a part of their latest VIP program to try out new products! I was so honored they reached out and behold a few days later, I receive the latest liner from Benefit Cosmetics “They’re Real! Push-Up Liner.” For me, liner is incredibly important. My eyes are something I like to play up — especially at night!

I am usually one to use an angled brush along with a pencil/gel liner combination which can get pretty complicated. However — this innovative product has it all in one! Put the angled brushes aside ladies! This new liner has an angled tip and retractable gel liner that comes out easily for the perfect smudge-proof line.

It was a little tricky to use at first but after a few tries I got the hang of it. That line wasn’t going anywhere! I definitely suggest this product if you’re one to love a bold liner. You can really switch up the angle for your ideal shape which I love.

You won’t be disappointed!

MET YOUR MATCH

MetYourMatch1

Everyone has that pair of jeans that they can’t live without — and for me, that pair is my American Eagle Outfitters Hi-Rise Jegging in a perfectly faded charcoal grey. Sure, it might be your not so typical blue jean but I literally live in this neutral and can’t seem to take them off!

On a beautiful Saturday in the city, I was shopping around the Meatpacking District and popped into All Saints where I usually walk around in awe of their sea of grey selection…and there they were — the perfect pump in a beautifully distressed leather in faded charcoal grey. I had to have them! I tried them on with my grey jeans and had that “aha-moment”, my jeans had met their match!

Paired with my favorite white AE tee (which I could also analyze for hours…future post?), this is an incredibly easy outfit to take day to night. My favorite chambray shirt tied around my waist nods to the 90′s grunge trend we’ve been seeing and adds function for when it gets cooler at night.

For some color, I scored this Scotch & Soda clutch with awesome beaded detail that adds some texture to my look. The finishing touch? My latest sunglasses obsession — these mod-inspired cat-eye shades by Kate Spade Saturday. I love that instant edge they add to any outfit, and I dig the all-black frames and lenses.

What’s your perfect match?

MET GALA 2014

The Met Gala — an event that comes every Spring as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute hosted by fashion icon, Anna Wintour. This year’s theme was “Charles James: Beyond Fashion.” I’m sure like most of you Fashionistas, I was swooning over my Instagram feed wondering, “How does one pick a #MetGala best dressed?”

Well this is my site and I couldn’t pick just one! Here are my favorite looks and moments from the night…what were yours?

From the top:

Beyonce & Jay Z in Givenchy. Bey truly looked like a Queen rocking a head piece and gown beaded to perfection. Can you say #werk? Hov went with a classic white and black ensemble keeping B the star…how sweet.

Rosie Huntington-Whitely killed it in Balmain. Simple sleek hair parted down the middle was the perfect low-key look to compliment the edgy dress.

Kim Kardashian in custom Lanvin was a vision in blue. Old Hollywood waves added the perfect touch and we can all agree was a definite upgrade from last year’s floral wonder!

Victoria Beckham in Victoria Beckham, naturally. The woman can do no wrong.

Rihanna cropped it like it’s hot in Stella McCartney! We knew BadGalRiRi would be the one to rock our favorite trend and she nailed it. The back of the dress was equally as appealing.

Leighton Meester was a golden boho beauty in Emilio Pucci — the beading was insane!

Blake Lively — Where have you been all my life? We’ve missed this beauty on the red carpet! I can’t stop staring…beyond gorgeous in Gucci. Her dramatic side part and soft waves added that amazing Hollywood glamour and showstopper quality Blake is known for. #swoon

Lily Aldridge was smoking in liquid metal Michael Kors. Can I rent the runway that dress? But seriously…

Joan Smalls in custom Vera Wang — what can I say, my three favorite things: supermodels, taupe dresses and a side braid. Not many people could pull off that statement of a lip but the woman can do no wrong. It also helps that Beyonce’s make-up artist, Sir John was behind this masterpiece and rumor has it will be on The Coveteur soon!

Kendall Jenner in Topshop. She shocked us all hitting the runways this past season and continues to wow me with her red carpet looks! Excited for what’s to come of this supermodel on the rise!

Stella McCartney knows how to party! The ultimate girl group featuring supermodel/Instagram star Cara Delevingne, Rihanna, Kate Bosworth and Reese Witherspoon. Could you think of a cooler group of girls to hang out with??

Love from the Met steps..xoxo

The Magic of Mean Girls

I remember being a freshman in high school feeling so excited to see Mean Girls opening night with my friends at Rave.

Rave was the movie theater in the outdoor shopping mall in my hometown. It was the place to be seen on the weekends — especially as a freshman where all there was to do was shop, eat pizza and chill with your friends as your parents dropped you off. Now Rave isn’t even called Rave and my favorite pizza place, Puccini’s is a thing of the past (tears)!  I can’t believe it’s been 10 years…

Just think — Amanda Seyfried was a small town girl from Allentown, PA, Rachel McAdams was a blonde pre-Notebook, Lindsay Lohan wasn’t BFF’s with Oprah and “fetch” wasn’t even a term for “cool”. Mean Girls really changed it all and will still be that movie I can’t turn off when it’s on and the quotes still remain hilarious as ever.

Let’s reminisce on the magic of Mean Girls with non-other than rapper, mathelite and “I only date women of color” extraordinaire — Kevin G.

Happy Anniversary Mean Girls!

Where were you when you first saw Mean Girls and what was your favorite scene? Leave your comments below — it would be fetch! :)

Bucket List: Get Critiqued by Joan Rivers…Check!

Made my fashion TV debut with blogger NYCPretty and American Eagle Outfitters rocking the latest 90′s trend to come back — overalls!

I had no idea until that morning that Joan Rivers was going to be a guest on WLNY’s “The Couch” or that she would be there for our segment! It was pretty crazy — luckily Joan Rivers gave me her “Fashion Police” seal of approval…thanks Joan!

#TBT: Do the 90′s again — The Right Way.

Jared Leto you'll always be Jordan Catalano to me!

Hey Jared Leto, I know you won an Oscar and all — but can I borrow that shirt?

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to channel your inner “My So Called Life” – the 90′s are back and not going anywhere. However, this time around let’s do it a little better. Less baggy and saggy, let’s actually look put together.

Growing up, my oldest sister did the 90′s to perfection. She had the overall-plaid dress combo, the dark lipstick and high-waisted jeans. It’s pretty crazy to see, but that small dull floral print she loved is now everywhere and you can walk around NYC spotting countless fashionistas with a casually tied plaid shirt around their waists.

It’s time to embrace the trend — but how can you ease in? Just a few easy steps…

1.The Dark Lip

Think updated Claire Danes, also known as “The Lorde”.

For this I’m all about the Nars Pure Matte lipstick in Volga. A little goes a long way, you can do just a touch and gradually build the color to your liking. For a more casual berry lip I like mixing it with a sheer pink for the perfect hint of color.

2. The Doc Martin

red doc martins

I remember going with my sister to buy her first pair of Doc Martins — it was a big day! These shoes can come across super masculine but worn with a dress adds a cool-girl edge and femininity. I enjoy the red for a great contrast with black and easily goes with your blue denim.

3. The Plaid Shirt

Let’s face it — Joan Smalls can make anything look good but here she makes the plaid shirt look easy and effortless! The perfect “model-off-duty” look. Pair your favorite plaid over your go-to distressed jeans and you’re so on trend. AE.com has some great acid wash plaids to get this look.

4. The Crop Top

cropped sweater

Probably my favorite take from the 90′s. I am all about a crop top. In these colder months it’s been a bit harder to work in the trend but with the art of layering — anything is possible! A great cropped sweater will easily transition you from winter to spring and layered over your favorite T or dress is a really easy look to switch things up. Forever 21 makes some great crop sweater options under $20. #backups

How will you do the 90′s trend — again?
